Streaming setup opinions and advice

Niqht1

Pretty sure this is the best forum for this..

TLDR :

I need recommendations on 3.5mm headphones/headset/mic for a reasonable price that can do well in a loud ass Jr High gym during sports games.

Story mode:

Part 1 - So I am an AV teacher at a school. I have been playing with a way to realistically bring some production type work for them to do (well, not the normal classes, a special 2nd year class that makes a school news show). We do 4 faculty vs student sports games a year and stream it to the school.

My first dive into it was a mad dash setting up student laptops with OBS RTSP streaming. I use the Canon Vixia R800s with HDMI->USB adapters into laptops. Two are in backpacks so they can move around, two are on tripods with dollies. All are via 5ghz wifi. I really wish we could NDI, but not gonna happen. I pick these up into OBS on a workstation that has the usual goodies, and that is then fed into an RTMP stream to the school over ethernet.

All of that just to ask your opinions and anything you can potentially advise or recommend?

Part 2 - This setup worked rather well. I will be adjusting the quality over time, but it got the job done. With only the occasional pixel mess pauses and hiccups when moving between APs.

My real issue is the audio. We had two people calling the game to the stream and I only have USB headsets. I got them both working, but it was huge pita and in the end left an echo in the outgoing stream (but not in the headset of those at the desk).

So my hope is a lead on some good, but budget friendly 3.5mm headsets that can manage a loud Jr High/Highschool gym during a game. And of course in both mic pickup and the ear cups keeping it quiet. A pair can be just headphones with a mounted mic the 2 announcers can share, if that is workable. 4 of them need to be headsets for talking to my camera kids.

Thank you all..

I don’t know what models but I know what you want to avoid:  condenser mics.  Noise reduction is also an option.   A desk mic that is not a condenser with a fuzzy mic sock or some sort of over ear can with noise reduction perhaps.

Not a pro, not even very good.  I’m just old and have time currently.  Assuming I know a lot about computers can be a mistake.

Life is like a bowl of chocolates: there are all these little crinkly paper cups everywhere.

my recommendation would be get a separate headphone amp and feed that to everyone who needs it then use XLR mics for each announcer
Sony MDR-7506 are good headsets with Senal SMH-1000 being a little cheaper
Sure SM58 on dekstop stands assuming kids stay right up on them should do decent fed into an interface. I don't know of a good unit if you want more than 2 channels other than using a 2 channel unit fed via a mixing board. I see a lot of the mixing boards now claim to do USB input I've never used them
