Ryzen 5 2400G Bottlenecking my 980Ti, CPU Upgrade recommendations

Currently running an AMD Ryzen 5 2400G which I've seen is bottlenecking my 980Ti, I'm looking for a CPU Upgrade to bring bottlenecking to 0 or at least reduce it, I've looked up the bottlenecking percentage on a few sites, no idea if they're trustworthy or not This is the site I used.

Shows almost 40% bottleneck, any recommendations from people running the same GPU as mine?

NOTE: The GPU is overclocked, has a custom BIOS, higher TDP, better cooling, so that's bound to be a higher bottleneck than the one showed.

System is mainly used for Gaming and Producing music.

Thanks a lot to anyone who decides to put a few minutes to help out!

Online "bottleneck calculators" are spurious, as a rule.

Corps aren't your friends. "Bottleneck calculators" are BS. Only suckers buy based on brand. It's your PC, do what makes you happy.  If your build meets your needs, you don't need anyone else to "rate" it for you. And talking about being part of a "master race" is cringe. Watch this space for further truths people need to hear.

If you are willing to pay a decent amount more, and depending on your motherboard, the Ryzen 7 5800X3D seems like a good option. You won't need to upgrade that for another 7+ years, and all you would have to upgrade in the future is the GPU, if you wanted. Assuming a smaller budget, a Ryzen 5 5500/5600 would be good choices, and assuming an EVEN SMALLER budget, the Ryzen 5 4600G would work as well.

What motherboard (or at least chipset) does this machine have? That will determine which processors you can upgrade to without a new board.

Assuming it works in your PC, a Ryzen 5 5600 would be significantly faster for not a whole lot of money.

Do not use those "bottleneck calculators"

All that they do is take frame rate analytics to calculate the proportion between two setups and call the one with slower results a "bottlenecked" system, as you can see on the page you've linked.

It's absolutely flawed.

The reason why a better CPU would potentially get you higher frame rates is because of its superior architecture, higher core count, clock speed, cache capacity, etc. And the results may vary across different games and softwares, and also depend on the way they are configured. The only factor that would constitute a real "bottleneck" would be the CPU having a slower PCIe link speed than the GPU supports.

I had my eyes on the 5800X3D, even though it would require a new motherboard I think, budget is almost no issue since holidays are coming in less than a month.

ASUS B350 PRIME-PLUS is the motherboard the system has in it right now, I don't have a problem with changing out the motherboard as long as I don't need to upgrade any time soon lol

PCI-E Link speed in GPU-Z Shows PCI-E x16 3.0 @ x8 3.0 And I assume that's normal since my CPU doesn't have enough lanes with the M.2 SSD and such, I've also been told a while back I'll need to upgrade sooner than I thought since the CPU is weak due to it being just a 4 Core and having an iGPU.

If it got a BIOS update to support 5th gen, then you shouldn't need to, but if your board didn't, then you would. Safer to get a new board since AM4 boards are dirt cheap.

You should make "real" calculations of your bottleneck by running games at different res and graphics settings and comparing with benchmarks on a 980Ti with a faster CPU

Great! Looks like you've got your pick of the Zen 3 lineup if you update your BIOS to version 6042 or later. You're only limited by your budget.

https://www.asus.com/motherboards-components/motherboards/prime/prime-b350-plus/helpdesk_cpu/

You can get a Ryzen 5 5600 right now for under $150 at B&H in the US. In theory that should give you about twice the multithreaded performance of your old CPU.

The 5800X3D is the summit chip for the AM4 platform. It looks like all the usual suspects have it in stock for about $380.

I'm pretty sure it did, since I like to keep everything, especially hardware related, on the latest version.

Highest resolution I can go to is 1080p, unless running a game on triple monitors counts as a benchmark.

If my motherboard supports the 5800X3D I could get that since it retails for about 350 Euros here brand new, I've got a 360mm Radiator for cooling so I shouldn't need to change that either, if I also don't need to change the motherboard then I'll be buying is as soon as possible since I want to spend a good amount of hard earned money so I don't have to upgrade in example 2 years from now.

It's on the support list, you just need to update to BIOS 6042 or later. That will take your current platform as far as it will go.

It is an amazing cpu, sure. However, for your usage, a 5600 would be enough.

You really won't see any benefits by going to the 5800x3d unless you upgrade your GPU as well. Even a 3600 should be enough mine only bottlenecks my 3060 in BF2042 and nothing else.

I'll probably go for the 5800X3D since when I get out of University I'll most likely upgrade the motherboard and GPU.

with the upgrade plan, that's a good decision. prices are good right now and may rise with availability of 5th gen getting worse in the future.

If you are not planning on getting a new GPU, i'd say don't go for the 5800X3D. It's an astonishing CPU and i can't recommend it enough (usually) but for 980Ti it's a just a massive overkill. This is basically the same GPU as GTX 1070 and althoguh the X3D will give you more frames than any other CPU with that GPU, i'm not sure it's a wise decision. Just grab a 5600(X) and you will still get incredible improvement over the 2400g while spending a lot less. Currently amazon(dot)de has the 5600x for €166 https://www.amazon.de/dp/B08166SLDF?tag=vandover-21&linkCode=osi&th=1&psc=1

I'll be getting is as soon as I get back to my country for holidays, and the prices might as well be a bit more down than usual.

I will be getting a new GPU as soon as I see that the 980Ti is spent and can't deal with the workload I usually put on it, but it's a plan for a bigger upgrade, that's why I settled for the X3D
