Good afternoon hivemind

For A bday gift my wife wants to get me a pc my budget is 1500$ to 1700$

i live near Huston so a trip to micro center is a option but i have to stay in budget that is non-negotiable

ideally id like to do the following list    if nothing else just a dedicated gaming pc

games/ Star citizen, Overwatch, GTA, COD

light video and audio editing

light 3D modeling for printing

You can get a pretty solid system for that money, assuming it's a desktop. A cursory check of Microcenter's offerings suggests you can get RTX 3070 or 3070 Ti graphics and a 12th-gen Core i7 for that money, which is plenty.

I would consider looking at a reputable PC shop (local or otherwise) that does custom builds in the off chance you'll get better value, such as more storage or RAM. Anything that has at least 16GB of RAM and 1TB of SSD storage should be alright, but 32GB of RAM and 2TB total storage would be sweeter.

This is what I would get if I were going to get a prebuilt. This would be a powerful build that can handle what you want.

So just to clarify you are going for a prebuilt? If so then I would probably go with microcenters brand powerspec. They have the best deals as far as prebuilts go at microcenter.

Idc either way I'm just looking for a pc that can handle what I'd like to play

If you care about saving a buck, then you can step down from Brooksie's since 'light graphical software' usage won't exceed any game requirement. Depending on your visual preferences like resolution, fidelity and fps you might be willing to go for a cheaper build. Star Citizen is the most demanding in your case, so YouTube gameplay with GPU, RAM, CPU you are choosing to see if it fits your expectation.

Here'r some reference for you:

- RTX 3070 or 6700 XT - will give you 1440p w/ max settings in most games, high fps in many cases too. 4K@60 is also achievable afaik in some. If you never go above 1080p and don't care about fidelity/fps, you can easily step down.

- 16GB won't be exceeded by majority of games atm. 32GB might be required by Star Citizen (idk) or if you mod games.

- i5 12400 is the bare minimum you can go for. Upgrades give marginal performance boost in depending on titles.
