So I’m having an ultimatum on if I should get an 5800x or a 5500 since the 5500 is so cheap at the moment (sometimes as low as 60$ NEW) is the extra around 120$ worth it for the 5800x my primary use is probably slightly more multithreaded usecases but with only a approximate 30% difference in benchmark performance I’m a little stuck on if a 5800x will keep me going for longer than a 5500 since it’s more capable I feel I would have to replace it later than the 5500.

Thoughts?

That entirely depends on what you do. For gaming, 6 cores are completely fine. 8 cores would be more futureproof though. Something I would like to note here is that the 5500 is a bit tricky. It is a 5000 series processor but it is stripped down and does not give you PCI-e 4.0 support. So if you were to go 6-core, maybe choose the 5600 instead. It really comes down to budget and when you plan on upgrading the computer the next time. Both choices should be fine for gaming for the next couple of years unless you want to get something like a RTX 4090 card. In which case you would be better off with the 5800X3D.

If you can get 5500 for 60 bucks then I would consider that if you want to save. If you dont have a gpu then you could use the extra dollars for that
