AMD has announced its Mantle SDK private beta programme

KakaoDj

Kitguru article

AMD claims that there is “unprecedented demand” for the programme and now that the SDK has “achieved all necessary stability, performance and functionality milestones required to ready it for a broader audience in the developer community.”

You can register interest for the invitation by emailing mantleaccess@AMD.com, just in case you were wondering  B)

Hopefully, this will make Mantle more "mainstream". Why are they going all "hush hush James Bond" on it though? Are they afraid a certain green villain will steal the magic?  ^_^

AMD’s graphics API, Mantle, is entering a “new phase of its development cycle” by launching a private beta programme for game developers to test out the Mantle SDK. In support of the beta, AMD has launched a password protected web portal which will allow those who are allowed access to download the tools to develop for Mantle.

“The Mantle NDA Developer SDK website is open to professional game developers that are interested in evaluating and developing games with the Mantle API. Only a limited set of developers are provided access to the Mantle NDA Developer SDK and access is subject to a selection process.”

i hope mantle shakes the market up a bit more then it currently is, cpu bottlenecks need to disappear, coding becomes better, bf4 becomes buggier.

honestly it will not match the improvements that mantle shows, it has to work with a lot more things.

so it's kinda like this

buy 780 ti = dx12

buy r9 290x = mantle or dx12 whichever you want.

Live your life like a dream.

Hopefully we could get some more wide spread adoption. 2 games is not enough to convince developers into porting their games to mantle

Well considering all of the 2 mantle games available, 3 more would be "unprecedented demand". But seriously I hope this is not just PR I actually would like to see wider Mantle adoption: seems like the perfect way to gain good performance numbers while we wait for wider SteamOS adoption.

We don't know what DX12 will be like. You can't make assumptions on something that won't come out for a long time.

Well when someone promises better performance... normally we don't get it. The latest Nvidia drivers as an example.

So who knows what DX12 will give in performance, for the moment AMD has actually delivered and they have quite a head start.

Every other piece of Microsoft software is utter crap. The ones in-between are usually very good. We have seen this with their OS's since their first OS. So I am going to guess and say W9 will be really good. Although I could be wrong and if I am then Microsoft is done for on the operating side.

AMD said Thursday that the company has signed up 40 developer studios wishing to use its Mantle technology, and is issuing another round of invitations for others to access a new portal.

It depends on which studios doing what games: if it's a bunch of indie studios working on platformers, yeah even lowly APUs can already handle them just fine. I really don't think we can expect 40 Metro: last lights which is admittedly also indie but not as prevalent as your typical indie games.

Mantle has always been an interesting topic to me. Most see it as AMD trying to reclaim lost ground for what AMD microprocessors lack in performance. Tho I see places where Mantle could potentially make a huge impact.

market-position-mullins.jpg

There you have the E1-6200T beating out the Atom Z3770D. In which the Dell Venue 8 Pro (in the video below) packs a Atom Z3740D (same as the Z3770D but with lower clocked cores). The Z3740D & Z3770D (share the same exact GPU) scores 225 on average in 3DMark 11. So the E1-6200T saw around a 65% performance increase in 3DMark 11.

Now imagine what a Dell Venue 8 Pro could do if it was powered by E1-6200T and running a Mantle enabled game. I find the stride for x86 standardization among tablets to be interesting. Even more so once you factor in that Linux could become a big player in the mobile gaming market as well with things like SteamOS. Which most games would play on a device of this specification easily.

Hopefully we could get some more wide spread adoption. 2 games is not enough to convince developers into porting their games to mantle

There are over 22 games in development right now supporting Mantle out of the gate.

I have my doubts you will see any "indie'ish" games that support a powerful API like Mantle. Platformers are sprite based, why on earth would you need Mantle for something so basic. Here's some upcoming games that utilize Mantle.

For consoles yes, but not for PC.
