Game Settings...CPU running harder than GPU

I just got a 1440p 165hz monitor (upgraded from 60hz(HIGHLY recommend)) and while playing Destiny 2, I turned the frame rate limit from 60 to 165. Noticed I was only gettting about 90ish in game. I have a 2060 Super and I play on Low. I pulled up Task Manager and noticed my CPU was at about 45% and my GPU was only at like 20%. What setting should I change to make the GPU take a heavier workload?

Seriously? Why would "harder" graphics matter? (I genuinly am unaware on most software stuff so i wanna learn what I can)

The lower the resolution and graphical settings -> the higher the CPU load and lower GPU utilization

The higher the resolution and graphical settings -> the higher the GPU utilization and the lower the CPU load.

That's why when reviewers test CPUs, they test them on overpowered GPU like the 4090, but at 1080p resolution so they can push the CPU harder.

Ok, this is a bit weird. I turned on Modern Warfare 2, tried 1440p, uncapped frame rate, first on all low then on all high. On low, cpu was at about 60%, gpu 30% and i was at about 120 frames. Then on High, I was at CPU 80-90%, GPU still at 30% and frames stayed relativly at 120. Whats the deal?

One thing i could think of is try to setup i high power profile for the game from windows - Win > type GPU > make sure Hardware Accelerate GPU scheduling is ON > Browse to find the exe to the game > add it > Options and change it from Let Windows Decide to High Performance GPU.

If this doesn't work, then your CPU is most likely too old. If it's pre-10th gen, then it's a normal experience. Intel CPUs pre-10th gen a getting kinda obsolete nowdays,

yeap, thats how a ~$800 cpu got beaten by a ~$300 cpu ! 🤣

Tbf 5800X3D will be probably stay the best value for money CPU until 7000 series Ryzens start rolling out with 3D V-cache. It's insane how powerful that thing is in gaming.

but also tbf, i was serious, it really shows more at lower resolutions, Steve (gamer nexus) said as much...

im not sure but it's likely the 12900k/s beats it at higher resolutions,  but you're right the x3D is still great value obviously.
