Asus 2080 Vs PNY 2080

Go to solution Solved by tkitch,

They're gonna be about the same.  If I was picking a brand?  I like Asus more than PNY.

But pick the one that works better with your build's look (if you care.)

(And yes, the RX 5700 XT is slower than a 2080 most of the time.)

I'm looking to upgrade my GPU, and the only used ones in my price range is the Asus RTX 2080 Dual OC and the PNY RTX 2080 XLR8 OC Triple.

Anybody who knows the pros/cons from either card or manufacturer?

Any help is appreciated.

5700xt is also in the price range, but my understanding is that 2080 > 5700xt?

edit: correct link for Pny

I don't think there is a bad choice between the 2. Buy the one you think looks better at this point.

The RTX 2080 is faster than the RX5700XT but the RX5700XT on the used market is usually around 100$ cheaper. As for those cards, both are pretty decent cards. Personally I'd pick the PNY model over the Asus one assuming they have a similar cost.

Why 2080? That seems so random. Can you not find a 6700xt/3060ti? Both those are cheap atm and much faster

6700xt/3060ti is ~$100 more than a 2080

Edit: I'm dumb and apparently can't read numbers, it's only like $30 difference.

I'm guessing zotac Vs gainward is tomato tomatoh?

Buying based on brand is dumb.

You linked to an Asus 2080 and a PNY 2080 Super. I can't believe nobody else has pointed that out yet. Do you understand those are not the same card? The 2080 Super is faster hands down, regardless of brand/model.

The "DUAL" branding is what Asus uses for their cheapest SKU's. With only two fans it's probably going to be noisier than the PNY card with three. If they are comparable in price the PNY card is the buy every time.

The 5700 XT is more comparable to a 2070 in performance, but it should be substantially cheaper than any 2080 flavor.

Corps aren't your friends. "Bottleneck calculators" are BS. Only suckers buy based on brand. It's your PC, do what makes you happy.  If your build meets your needs, you don't need anyone else to "rate" it for you. And talking about being part of a "master race" is cringe. Watch this space for further truths people need to hear.

I see, I would go with the 2080 super from PNY then

Answer remains the same. Performance will be indistinguishable except for a good chance the PNY will be cooler/quieter. The Asus card is also ass-ugly. If they are about the same price, then there is zero reason to buy the Asus card except for name brand prestige, which is for suckers.
