Just wanted to say thanks as I plan on getting the thermaltake Toughpower GF1 850W.

I know online it states everywhere that 750W is recommended but I found an amazing deal and would like to know if 600W is good enough.

Depends on the CPU and what PSU unit exactly you're working with. 600w will be perfectly fine 99% of the time. Also, what's the 'amazing deal' that you found?

I am NOT a professional and a lot of the time what I'm saying is based on limited knowledge and experience. I'm going to be incorrect at times.

I have a 9700k and I found a 6700xt for $300 which is by far the lowest I have seen (yes used).

Nice, That's definitely a good price. You probably dont need to sweat the power.

Okay, and yeah I don't have an overclock or anything going for my CPU anyway it does the trick as is.

I'd argue it depends more on which specific power supply 😉

Which power supply?

I'm not actually trying to be as grumpy as it seems.

That PSU is trash, I'd get a quality 750w unit.

Is there a cheap one by chance? I am trying to keep a budget. (Already pushed budget with the new card if I get it.

Your current one will work (probably just fine), but it's preferable that you ditch it. It's a dated, lowend unit with questionable reliability and protections.

450w transient on a 6700xt at 70w above reference tdp, 150w pull from a 9700k at 25w above peak power draw, 50w for the rest of the system=650w... in the absolute worst case during a transient. The PSU can handle higher then that for transients...

Realistically? More like ~500w for transients under full load, with gaming load being quite a bit lower.

What if he ever upgrades though? A PSU is a multi build commitment and they have 10 year warranties. Plus, more headroom is always better. We are splitting hairs over $40. Just work a few overtime hours

I am in school paying thousands, I can't simply work more hours. The reason I am in this predicament is because I wanted a new 1080p card to replace my 1060 and this 6700xt came up for $300. I realistically only had $250 but figured it was worth the extra at this price. Now since I am already over budget I am looking for a power supply I can trust for the next lets say 4 years until I can truly get some money together.
