After both Motorola and LG announced the world's first Android Wear-based Smartwatches, only the latter company has continually made efforts to tell more people about their unreleased gadget. The LG G Watch now has a release date. It is coming to Europe this June for a cool €199. A state side launch is planned for later; we expect the G Watch to sell for around $249 in the US.

I mean we already have phones [Which coincidentally ALSO has a clock], @ £600+ and regluar watches, We don't need any more pointless technology that already has many incarnations digitally.

I have no idea why someone who has watch and/or a phone and still want this? A person has in this day and age two clocks on there person at all times. Hence why it's silly and pointless.

I like to think the Smartphones have too much grip to allow any other market, maybe when they have apps and such. Hell if it was a phone I may buy it. One day they will have head bands that do all that. ONE DAY >:c

You clearly DO NOT understand the whole idea of a smartwatch , you dont use it standalone, you use it alongside your smartphone.

I DON'T need to, I already have a bloody PHONE. That is SMART, why would I need a silly smart watch when I have SMART phone. It's just some hipster gimick and if you believe otherwise then fine...waste your money. Not my problem. :)

Ok let me give you a scenario , You are biking just biking and you want to change the song on your phone , instead of going trough the hassle of getting your phone out changing it etc etc. you can just change it with one easy swipe on your watch , same goes for messages etc. I can give 100 more scenarios where a smartwatch is really helpfull and people are yet to discover them.

Wouldn't watches fall under the category of fashion & class (depending on how expensive it is). It is not needed, but what is "needed" about a smart phone? People will want to get more out of a watch if they could instead of buying a regular watch.

  • 2 weeks later...

I really hope AndroidWear isn't super based around voice control, but from what we've seen thus far, it will be.  The times I would really need a "smart watch" are times I can't be talking into my wrist.

There needs to be an option in the poll for those that think smart watches are a stupid idea. Along with all other smart devices.

They aren't stupid.

They just didn't make a good one yet.(Just like with smartphones before 2007)

LG always fails to deliver and I don't think it will be different now.

And Samsung had already a commercial smartwatch in 2008-2009 which was a huge fail.

Samsung brings often stuff to market before anyone else but fails at delivering a good product.(good examples are their touchscreen phones before android and their first tablets)

If anyone can make smartwatch than it's Apple.

People thought tablets would fail and Apple showed the opposite.

And I think they can do the same thing with smartwatches.

I think smartphones are stupid though. I don't understand why they exist because there are better experiences elsewhere. Eg. tablets offer a far better experience than a smartphone can. If they made a tablet that was rugged and industrial with a slide-out keyboard and a touchpad that could make phone calls I would buy it. I don't own any "smart device" so there is obviously a market for what I am describing. But it also has to come in at a reasonable price.

Yes I forgot about this option.

In any scientific questionnaire you always need an option that is neither what you want.

I actually like the idea of a well developed smart watch; not for the reason to just have one, rather to notify me of e-mails, txt, schedules.., with being discrete and when I cannot take the phone out of my pocket.

Interesting to see how smart wear will play "important" roles in our lives not far from now ..

What people fail to realize is the overall purpose of the wearables and the 'smart appliances' push

Eventually the idea is to have a smartphone in your pocket that does the computing for everything around you that is also smart. My watch gives me on-the-fly updates. My glasses show a HUD and augmented reality display to aid my daily activities. My fridge knows what I bought at the store because my smartphone was used as a payment method rather than a credit card when I left the store. My house knows to change the temperature because my body heat is changing. My car knows to start up and turn on the heat because it's 12 degrees out today and my smartphone heard that I'm going out to the store etc....

Those that want this, myself included, aren't buying a fancy watch that can do things that their phone is already doing. They are buying into the beginnings of a new ecosystem.
