(Speculation) Do you think the Ryzen 5800X will be able to handle or bottleneck the 4080 12GB ?

Go to solution Solved by BiotechBen,

Well the 12gb is a 3080 in name only, and the 5800x is a very strong CPU, so no. Nothing you'll be able to measure unless you play benchmark simulator on 480p.

I'm between upgrading my AM4 CPU or upgrading everything to AM5.

I will still wait for benchmarks and reviews, but I just wanted to read your thoughts 馃榾

It doesn鈥檛 exist, it was a joke. It鈥檚 a colloquialism for games like CS:GO where you can push hundreds of frames per second on even the lowest powered rig.

That鈥檚 an extremely fast CPU so no, not in any way that matters, especially at the resolutions you鈥檇 be playing games at with a 3080.聽

I see, so the 4080 12GB is expected to be around 3090 Ti performance?

If you drop to low settings at 720p does it bottleneck you today?聽 If not it isn't going to bottleneck on a faster card at a decent resolution.

it's around there

image.thumb.png.f729d96792d649ae1837339fc9d22d25.png

even at 1080p the 5800x pumps out 144fps lows, so at 1440p and 4k the 5800x will mostly be fine

There are fringe cases like spiderman, 2077 and ubisoft games tho

image.thumb.png.09bb23dd48c73463a625ffe1e4a1f083.png

personally if for some reason i was gaming at 1080p i'd upgrade, for 1440p/4k i wouldnt bother.

I currently game on a 1440p 165hz monitor, but most benchmarks are at 1080p which got me confused...

I own a Ryzen 5 2600 and I plan to buy a 4080 12GB

Which CPU would fit me for gaming? In your opinion
