I just realized that I have indeed populated every single slot.

Does that mean my system now quality as "baller system"?

Also. OPEN BACK SLOTS. Why are board manufacturer so stupid

just open-back everything so you don't have to put x16 in everything, see I even made it cheaper for you. Now hire me.

Ok so i have a laptop and desktop blah blah blah, But the build i want to show off is my e-waste NAS

I have randomly been collecting parts from here and there till I had enough.

basically im too cheap /stubborn to buy an off the shelf NAS

Vault - 77 - A box full of puppets!

Screenshot2024-05-20at2_49_40PM.png.0be5b7035c6d536cac5145d7fe9c0d88.png

The Parts:

Case:  corsair ammo box looking bad boy I found on the side of the road (lightly rained on)

Mobo and CPU: Pulled from an old gaming pc i5-4690K (can be overclocked, It was) with an ASRock gaming Mobo

Ram:  Mismatching kits:  Hyper - x 2x 8gb bell 2x 8gb = 32GB speed is just a number

GPU: E-waste dumpster Nvidia Quda P1000 ripped out of an old Hp Z workstation

HDD:  256 M.2 SSD from a HP workstation

5x  12 TB SAS drives Pull from an old SAN that had failed there was 7 drives but 2 DOA

HBA:  LSI 9240-8I 6Gbps SAS HBA 9211-8I IT  for Aliexpress (cost me about 50 Dolloradoos (AU))

* i had to Kapton tape the 3.3v pins to get the drives to run!

CPU COOLER: Corsair AIO came with the guts

PSU: Works!

FANS: Got a bunch from a garage sale! jammed them in where i could

Screenshot2024-05-20at2_45_51PM.thumb.png.70ff812343ff032ba5ff1bb6ce61c693.png

Now i know it looks like a mess, that is cos well it is! But it works and i am not going to mess with the eco system of the rainforest~!

The plan!

Next upgrade will be a 4 port NIC and a decent PSU as well as adding more drives!

at some stage i will clean out the case and 3d print more HDD bays!

i have a box of random fans so i might improve airflow but the HBA cables prevent the side panel going on! for now it just chills in my HomeLab!

X79 doesn't do that.  While it does have rebar tooling, its later boards that theres a toggle for it.  On the one I have, it just autoallocates all the possible bar space that is needed.  The GPU's are getting fed another 20GB of ram, so I'm not sure the extra 2GB from the intel rebar suite would do a whole lot.

I enjoy that PSU shroud.  Good air design in that case.

Yessir, it pushes air from the front down on the the rest of the parts, works great!

I'm using an Asus P9X79LE, whatever ram I have laying around, theres a Audigy ZS2, the 2 K4200's, 2690, cooled by the cooler that came with my 3900X btw just sitting on the socket

gimme a bit.  I might post a pic if its not a huge pain in the arse

If I had an HP I'd have a Grid K2 in there as well.
