Does PSU that keeps failing damages my components?

_Alexa_
Go to solution Solved by whispous,

Yes, there is a chance that it will fry other components.

I would strongly recommend picking a power supply from a well known bigger brand to lower the chance of disappointment.

Raidmax 735W Bronze

I've had this PSU for 3 years and like 70% of the time it's failing whenever i turn on a game, so it probably failed on me like 20 times in last two weeks.

What are the chances it damaged any of my components?

Also, ofc I'm looking for a new one and I wonder if y'all think this one is good

https://ms-start.com/en/products/ms-core-m600-power-supply/  it is a brand from Croatia.

I will reiterate it not might but will damage the components, if they are still working, chances are it only shortened their lifespan, if you want them to be destroyed keep using this PSU, but if you don't want to build s new computer, stop using a defective PSU right now.

Thank You

If it happened to fry them, can that hurt them like a little bit like slow them or something, or is it a matter of working and not working at all?

That's a pretty bad PSU. For a light gaming rig it probably doesn't harm anything but if your system is more serious with high power demanding parts it makes the system less stable and shorten the lifespan because of bad voltage regulation and high ripple.

What are the specs of the system?

That's a bad unit too. It's not an upgrade. A sidegrade at best.

Yeah I'm informed about that 😅

I got Rtx 2060 r5 3600 micro ATX, only overclock on gpu i did is basic nvidia automatic tuning.

Okay, not gonna buy it, it's just that i don't have decent psu's here in serbia below 80$...

People seem to hate on every single one 😂

You don't want to use a group regulated unit with that specs. Double forward + DC-DC and a full range input is the bare minimum. $/€80 isn't that bad for a decent unit.

Do you have a link to a webshop for PSUs in Serbia? I thought I had one but can't find it anymore.

I was able to use it for 3 years though no problem (ik 3 years ain't a lot but it only started failing 2 weeks ago)

If we talking authorized, this one seems to be cheap in prices https://www.bcgroup-online.com/napajanja#

But I can always buy it from people for cheaper so https://m.kupujemprodajem.com/kompjuteri-desktop/napajanja/search.php?action=list&data[category_id]=10&data[group_id]=887&dummy=name#mhs0-1662885806189

Thank you for your time

A mate from me is also from Serbia. He told me it is very difficult to get eletronics there for a decent price, so I feel for you. I also had the same issue in belgium until I found a good deal.

Still, it is better to spend an unreasonably amount on a psu than to fry your other expensive components.

For Serbia/Hungary, best option is Cooler Master MWE V2 Bronze (full DC-DC)

After than there's tons of FSP and general double-forward units:

MSI MAG A550BN, ton of FSP units, and maybe a leftover or two Corsair CX-F series, Seasonic Core GC/GM, Antec Neo Zen.

You wanna know what's funny, I payed 30€ for that PSU and it worked 3 years no problem for me, even those failings didn't seem to damage anything, though ofc i won't see it till I buy the new one. But yeah i don't understand all the fuss about skipping so many psu's on market...

A failing psu can end up sending way too much current to your other components, frying them and effectively destroying them.

Given it is failing now, the likelyhood of it frying other components each time you try to use it now, will increase.

Worse, it can set the whole thing ablaze. It is very rare, but housefires have happened due a psu not working properly.

Most PSU's have securities built in to avoid things like that to happen. However, those can fail. At the end of the day, you are working with electricity. You have to be cautious.

3 years lifetime for a psu is very weak. A decent quality psu gets 7 years factory warranty for instance, meaning the brand is very confident it will last that long and very likely even longer.

There are cheap psu's out there that can work perfectly fine for 10 years, however you can never know that in advance with such psu's and you will be taking a gamble. Paying 40 euro's more to remove that gamble and to protect 1000 euro's worth of components, and in very extreme cases even your house, is highly advisable. Yes, you are paying quite a premium and big quality brands will overprice their psu's. Still advisable to do so.

No it's not, 550/650W models are way cheaper, the 650W is about 57 eur, the 750W about 65 eur.

Send this link to any of the sellers on KupujemProdajem, and order from one which offers you around those prices or lower (before shipping). All of them order from the same website, which is the one I linked above.

Keep in mind, only the links I posted are ok, the other units named the same with the word bronze being in actual bronze color are 240V only models. And the cheaper white ones are also 240V only models. Only the ones with the same color sticker like I linked above are full range.

So this is the cheapest one from KupujemProdajem https://www.kupujemprodajem.com/kompjuteri-desktop/napajanja/cooler-master-mwe-bronze-v2-650w-mpe-6501-acaab-eu/oglas/109385714?filter_id=1948510096 ,it's about 92 price ain't fixed but I don't think they will lower the price that much just because I've send them a link.

Found this one for 55€ https://www.kupujemprodajem.com/kompjuteri-desktop/napajanja/seasonic-b12-bc-650w/oglas/139208845 , it is a tier B on tier list. Should I get it?

Yeah i was stubborn enough to constantly try to start a game till it worked, can't say if my components were damaged but we'll see when i get new psu...

Thank you for the advice

I did find reasonably low price for psu https://www.kupujemprodajem.com/kompjuteri-desktop/napajanja/seasonic-b12-bc-650w/oglas/139208845 , have you got any thoughts on it?

You're misunderstanding again. Ignore the prices on KupujemProdajem, they're not updated often enough. Send them the links I gave you, and you'll get a different price.

No, you should chose the 650W, or 750W model I linked, choose a couple of sellers with lots of positive feedback, send them a private message with one of the links I posted, and order from the first that gives you a price that is close to, or even maybe under what I wrote above.

You send them a message by choosing a random PSU they're offering, clicking on the communication button, and not ordering that one, but sending them the link, and asking how much would the one from the link cost, this one for instance:

Taken the message from @Dogzilla07 in mind, so if the price is correct, then probably good enough. Reputable brand, no immediate widespread issues found on google at first sight, and 5 year warranty. I do not have enough of a technical background to know if the components it has are good, but it does not appear to be a fire hazard.

@Turbof1 @Dogzilla07  Thanks for the advices, they did offer me a good price but the date that that PSU comes to their store is 20.09. and then when they send it to me it's going to take another 5 days which i don't really want to wait out. I've bought the one from my link because they already have it in a city near me..
