Need help choosing 3090 vs 6900xt

TheeCanadian08

Hey I’m currently trying to upgrade from a 6800xt to a 3090 or a 6900xt I wanted to upgrade for vr mostly and I also run triple 1440p monitors

3440x1440 not 2560x1440p

which do you guys suggest I upgrade to ? And I don’t really want to wait for next gen cards

any help would be appreciated

I would go 3090 purely for the RTX cores and DLSS.  AMD makes a great card but 3090 will outperform it in 8/10 titles.

Are you getting low FPS in VR?

I mean, I've got a 6800XT, and other than some games that are janky/bad to begin with, I have no issue driving a 1440p display, though... Unless you're playing like Microsoft Flight Simulator, I don't think you can really even game on three monitors at the same time anyway...

I'd just stick with the 6800XT for now. I mean, it's your money, but seriously, you aren't going to gain that much going to either card.

Yeah I mostly play sim games I play a lot of ac , acc and Iracing  I’m running a hp reverb g2 it’s not unbearable but I do have to either run the g2 at half resolution to run an high graphics or run at full with medium graphics

But 6800xt is no slouch though

Whats the issue with the 6800xt? It's top of the line card is is struggling? Both cards are only about 10% better than the 6800xt so barely an upgrade.

I do VR with a HP Reverb G2 with a 3090.

I run it at 100% with no issues.

Looks like you have a similar set up to mine I’m also looking at the 3090ftw3 or the 3090ti just don’t know if it’s worth spending the extra for a ti

I should also note I play on 3440X1440p not 2560x1440

A 6800XT should get you reasonably decent FPS in 4K, so 3440X1440 shouldn't be that bad...

Personally, I would vote for the 6950XT if you are hell-bent on upgrading, just leave the RT off.

In performance, 6900xt is not better than 3090. Although 6900xt and 3090 share common similarities, most games show that 3090 has better FPS than 6900xt. Also, 3090 has a faster clock speed, enabling it to run high-end games efficiently.

It is.

The FTW3 Ultra 3090 ti is 10c cooler on the GPU and 20c cooler on the vram than the MSI 3090.

It also does 10 more frames at 4k.

If I was not planning on getting a 40 series card with 24gbs vram I would buy a 3rd FTW3 Ultra 3090 ti.

Another big feature of the FTW3 3090 ti is that they are only 5.38" wide with the power connector in the back.

Cards like the Tuf 3090 ti will not fit in all my cases since they are 5.5" wide with the power connecter on top.

I would not get an FTW3 3090. I have the 3080 ti version and it is too hot compered to the MSI Gaming X Trio 3090 and poorly designed compared to the 3090 ti version.
