The truth about CD Keys

Go to solution Solved by Blufeace_Baby,

for those wondering, I got my key from https://ca.vip-urcdkey.com/ and it is working great so far. I didn't realise i installed regular windows instead of windows 10 pro, so I contacted their customer support chat, the guy responded in 10 seconds, and gave me an upgrade key for windows 10 pro, both the keys worked, the guy was really nice.

I just finnished my first build (thank you everyone that helped) and I really want to know the truth about Windows CD Keys. Creators like tech source swear by them, but when I go to do my own research online, some people say it is pirating (and say that they don't even work) and others say that they use them all the time and it is fine. Can anyone help?

I am currently planning on buying a CD Key from here: https://ca.vip-scdkey.com

They're most likely "legitimate" keys in the sense that the retailer purchased those keys through legitimate channels. So they're not cracks or anything as far as I'm aware. It's just sometimes (not all) those retailers might have used stolen credit cards for instance to pay for said inventory. It's the shady stuff behind the scenes rather than the product itself.

IIRC you can get them cheaper on Reddit.

There are other reasons why sites like this aren't great, they're high in piracy, they steal money from devs, etc etc.

Most of the time creators will "Swear by them" because they're paid to.

It's just sometimes (not all) those retailers might have used stolen credit cards for instance to pay for said inventory.

That would only count for sites that are a marketplace where anyone can sell a product key no questions asked and said product key would be more then likely to have been originally purchased using stolen card details.

I have edited your links to be more generic. As grey market keys are, well, grey market and from individuals instead of bulk stores, we can't allow linking directly to ads. You can link to main page of the platform.

The issue with grey market keys is that no one but seller knows where they have come from or how they are acquired. They can be all good, coming from dead laptops and prebuilds. Or semi-good, coming from volume packs and seller just violating MS terms. Or they might be bought with stolen or forged credit cards, which means they are used as means of criminal activities.
