Greetings all.

I've recently upgraded my cpu to a 12900k, I've temporarily installed my 120mm corsair aio that has been cooling my old 6600k for years, just so the computer is functional.

I'm looking for recommendations for an AIO. As it's a 12900k and they do indeed run very hot, I'm thinking a 360mm.

Not looking for max overclocking power or won't be doing any rendering or anything like that. Just good enough to run most gaming titles.

Thanks

I run an Arctic 360mm. These temps are at idle and in synthetic loads. Gaming it doesn't get quite that hot. No bend correcting frame yet. It's in my PO box though.

Why a 12900k if you're just gaming? A 12700k or a 12600k would have done just as good for games, wouldn't use all that extra electricity and would have been easier to cool to boot smdh.

To answer you're question, look at arctic freezers. 280mm or 360 mm.

I would recommend some of those CPU contact Frames made by ThermalRight, Thermal Grizzly, or generic (on Amazon, AlliExpress, etc).

I was looking for a 12700k, I bought it as a bundle with the motherboard and the retailer had the 12900k bundle on the exact same price as the 12700k. I'm not too bothered about power consumption so i figured why the heck not get more for the money.

Ok thanks for the recommendation

When retailers have that bundle deal you have to TELL US!!!  🙂  Would have loved to hop on that.

But yeah, any decent 360mm is necessary if not a custom loop.  Just to pretend I know what I am talking about.

Definitely second the bending correction frame from thermalright. I just installed mine over the weekend and it dropped my temps by quite a bit... generally 5 C degrees in synthetic tests. But the better part is the intense spikes don't happen anymore. Like during Rocket League I would get spikes upward of 65 C at STOCK settings (no extra OC!). After I installed the frame, my spikes go up to 50-55 C max and hovers between 40-45 C during play.

And yeah get a 360mm rad for that heating monster.

FWIW yeah the 12900k likes power, but you can run it on less. I haven't paid attention to my specific power numbers, but I run off socket power and only one 8 pin connector. I also manage to get away with a SFF 600w Corsair with a 12900k and 6800xt. As long as your smart they don't have to use a ton of power.

I'm not actually trying to be as grumpy as it seems.

I have currently got it under volted or it would've melted my 120mm by now 😅

Definitely getting one of those as well then!

At gaming the 12900K doesn't use much more power than the 12700K, it's only 5 to 15W more on most games, with the 12900K being at most around 100W on average, usually closer to 70W. In full load the difference increases significantly though.

Don't get the Arctic AIO, it's fugly and there is currently a recall on it. That leaves Lian Li Galahad, EK-AIO, and all the rebranded Asetek garbage (Corsair, NZXT, etc.).

None of the options are perfect. I used to have the Lian Li Galahad and it was garbage. The AMD mounting was trash and the pump noise is unbearable. It performs well enough though and it looks real nice. Then there's the EKWB Basic/RGB/Elite AIOS. I think the pump block is subjectively ugly on all three but the pump noise is better and also performs well. Both come with garbage fans that you'll want to replace with Phanteks T30s or Noctua A12s. The only AIO with decent fans is the Arctic (which is fugly and has a recall due to a faulty o ring or something like that) and the Phanteks Glacier T30 (rebranded crap asetek pump and only comes in a 240mm flavor, no thanks, you really want 360mm).

So, honestly, no perfect solution. Risk of leaks with AIOS is rare and even if they do, if you have a backplate on graphics card and fan facing down on PSU there shouldn't be any damage. The liquid in AIOs is non conductive too I believe.

I'd personally get the EKWB AIO Basic 360 (it goes on sale for around $100 all the time, don't pay full price) and throw some T30s or A12s on there depending on if you have the space for t30s and if they're in stock (seems like 2/3 of the time, the t30s are out of stock) . The chromax noctuas are sometimes OOS too, but there's always the poo beige/brown colored ones

There's "recalls"/issues on huge number of released AIO in the past few years [It's easier to list AIOs that don't have sludge problems xD] (Apaltek made units mostly, except Apaltek with in-line pump like be quiet pure loop 2 FX). Arctic's is not technically a recall. They send you a kit to fix it yourself. Now whether that's better or worse, easier or harder, that's the question.
