Hello everyone,

I currently self built 3 servers on which I setup a docker swarm cluster.
Actually I would like to store some volume on shared storage to be sure that all my controller start well with docker compose.

I'm currently looking to self build the last server on which I will put TrueNAS with ZFS.
I found that case https://www.inter-tech.de/en/products/ipc/storage-cases/2u-2408
1_2408_homepage-28d9030a0a291f3c724164e603749bbb.jpg

But I need 8 Sata ports if I want to plug every port, and I can't find a classic ATX or mini ATX with 8 SATA ports on it.
So If you know how I can do it or if you know any other way to do it I'm listening!

thanks!

you can also just get a secondhand HBA or something on ebay. if you only need 8 ports you can get away with some very cheap options.

An LSI HBA card is always a good option for adding drives.

Do you maybe have some reference?

Dell h310, and some SAS to SATA cables. Make sure the HBA is either pre-flashed to IT mode, or you do it yourself (not hard, plenty of guides online). You need it to be on IT mode for it to work with ZFS.

Just google Dell h310 IT mode, lots and lots of info. And SAS to SATA adapters are like 10 bucks on eBay, some sellers include them with the HBA’s.

That case uses two backplanes. You need to use a board or HBA to use any of the drive bays.

From the listing...

The included backplanes only support SAS-Controller with SFF-8087 connection!
In operation with S-ATA-Controllers, please order the optional available SFF8087 cross-over cables in right quantity.

So any hba with dual sff8087 ports will work.

As above, from the specs you need a SAS card to connec to the backplane of those hotswap drive trays

OTHER DATA
S-ATA/SAS-Backplane + SFF-8087 (max. 12Gbit/s)

Any cards based on the LSI 9211-8i would be ideal

https://www.ebay.com/sch/i.html?_nkw=lsi+9211-8i

Just make sure you get one with the half height bracket, most sellers supply them with both.
