I am very late to ask this but - 

Why were the graphics card prices so high?

Why only graphics cards?

Why are the prices coming down now?

Microsoft owns my soul.

 

Also, Dell is evil, but HP kinda nice.

Miners buying up all the cards, combined with a pandemic where production capacity and transport capacity was limited. The crypto market has crashed, so prices come back down, because miners are no longer willing (or rather able) to pay absurd prices to buy every GPU possible.

At the peak it was insane demand combined with insane tariffs from China and companies being shut down.
