Hy

I will be building myself a new desktop computer in June. I have picked the parts but of course I want your thoughts. I’m coming from a almost 4 year old laptop with a recently broken graphics card.

I want the machine to be able to do whatever I feel like throwing at it. I need to be able to do 3D work for school. I do some occasional video and photo editing. And I really hope I will do some more real gaming in the future with this machine.

I’m planning to get a bit into crypto currencies and Folding@Home but it’s not a main focus at all.

I live in Belgium so the currency is Euro. I’m planning to buy the parts via the following site:

http://www.power4pc.be/ (there is an option for English below but it is not very good)

I and some friends have used the site before and have had good experiences, and it seems to me that it is overall cheaper than other sited I checked out.

If I would order now the cost will be € 1406,71without monitor, My original budget was around €1000 without monitor but I don’t mind to spend a bit more to really get what I want.

For now I’ll just use 1 monitor but I’m hoping to get at least another one in the future.

Parts:

Case:  Corsair 750D

http://www.power4pc.be/webshop/behuizing/bigtower/coolermaster_obsidian_750d_behuizing_cc-9011035-ww.html (It says Coolermaster on the site but this is just a error)

CPU: Intel I5 4670K

http://www.power4pc.be/product_info.php?products_id=12039&cPath=21_281&language=en

GPU: Nvidia GTX 780 MSI TF OC

http://www.power4pc.be/webshop/grafischekaarten/pci-envidia/msi_nvidia_geforce_gtx780_tf_oc_3gb_grafische_kaart_n780_tf_3g5oc.html

Mainboard: Asus Z87-PLUS

http://www.power4pc.be/webshop/moederborden/socket1150/asus_z87-plus_moederbord_90mb0e00-m0eay5.html

Memory: G.Skill 16GSR

http://www.power4pc.be/webshop/geheugen/ddr3-1866/gskill_16gb_ddr3_1866_16gsr_cl9_geheugen_f3-1866c9d-16gsr.html

Power supply: Corsair RM 850W

http://www.power4pc.be/webshop/voeding/corsair_rm850_voeding_cp-9020056-eu.html

CPU cooler: Corsair Hydro H110

http://www.power4pc.be/webshop/koelers/waterkoeling/corsair_cooling_hydro_series_h110_cpu_waterkoeling_cw-9060014-ww.html

SSD storage: I will carry over my Samsung 830 120 GB ssd from my laptop.

HDD storage: Seagate Barracuda 3TB

http://www.power4pc.be/webshop/hardeschijven/35_inch-s-ata/seagate_barracuda_3tb_hardeschijf_st3000dm001.html

Monitor: I would like to buy this from the same site for convenience, I’ would like a 24” IPS panel so the LG 24MP55HQ-P looks interesting, but I’m open for education and suggestions here. I would really like to stay below €200 for this one though.

Peripherals: I have all I need on this part.

My pride:
Case: Fractal Design DEFINE R4 | CPU: Intel I5-4670K | CPU cooler: Corsair Hydro H110 | Mobo: Asus SABERTOOTH Z97 MARK2 | GPU: MSI NVIDIA GeForce GTX 780 3GB | RAM: Kingston Beast 16GB DDR3-2400MHz | PSU: Corsair RM850 | Storage: SSD: Samsung 830 128gb HDD: Seagate 3TB

Don't see anything wrong with it except power supply is a bit overkill.

Yeah I want to leave the option to do some custom water cooling or adding a GPU in the future. Also the fan of the RM series PSU kicks in at a certain load, so in the meantime I think my system is just this much quieter.

You're right about that.

I have a RM 650 in my case, and the only thing I can hear when It's idle/web browsing/Low demanding stuff is the harddrives and front fans in my 450D.

It truly is silent, and even when it turns on, the thing I hear the most are still the harddrives & Front fans.

(Which kinda says alot, considering the pc is on my table about 20centimeters from my face :P )

Even then, a rm750 is already more than enough for that.

I'd suggest planning later. ~2-3 days at most before you buy. Parts and prices change frequently so any parts list you come up with now will likely be obsolete by the time you're ready to buy.

Thanks guys I appreciate all your help!

@ Gachr: I'm all open for a better price/performance configuration. I don't really care about a small rig, I like the idea of a big clean case that stands out. I got the space for it and don't want to hide it.

@ LawrenceBarnes2013: I have had some really bad times with a MSI mainboard before and I'm sure I'm being very short sighted now, but I still wish to forget it. The color scheme would improve for sure but it would also add more cost to a already over budget build.

@ exotioner: This is awesome to hear I really look forward to a quit system.

@ WoodenMarker: So I can save a bit on the PSU, this is why I post here. Do you think that much will change in one month, of course I will check for the prices and parts again just before I buy.

Maybe a suggestion/remark(s) for the monitor because I'm not sure at all about that.

Prices can change every other day and at some more extreme cases--more than once a day.
