Bought the I7-12700F I am a content creator beatproducer/videoeditor did I make a terrible choice?

Hi

I just found this video:

And now I am super worried. The CPU arrived today I was SUPER PUMPED because I am upgrading from a Xeon X5670. I was waiting really long for the package should I return it now? 😞

I am making beats with FL Studio and Editing with Camtasia/Sony Vegas I have GTX 1080 couldn´t I just use the GPU for rendering?

I don’t think you will be disappointed in a 12700f.

Without watching the video, I assume it’s saying the 3800X3D or something similar is a better option - which may be true. But it’s not like a 12700f is going to be slow… it’s one of the fastest CPU’s available.

Not a bad choice at all but you should have gotten the non F version for the iGPU rendering...

No, his point is actually about the lack of iGPU.

What version of Vegas are you using?

I cannot recall exactly, but at one time Vegas dropped support for some of the older GPUs, this was around the time that Sony sold the VEGAS software line to another company.

I ended up switching to Premiere Pro for all video editing and it has been pretty great in that regard. You should almost always use GPU rendering, because it will almost always be faster. On the other hand, your video card is kind of old now, so you may also look at investing in something a bit newer (think 3060)

The iGPU can make a difference, but it really depends on your workflow. I know that some Adobe stuff benefits from it, but all I remember about music production was that you kinda want CPU performance first and foremost. I'd look up performance comparisons for  your main workloads and decide based off of that.

Personally, I like to have the iGPU in case my main GPU fails (or for virtualisation, I guess).

The video is just talking about basically missing intel quicksync which is an inferior encode compared to other options. You have a gtx 1080 which is more than plenty.

Isn't the 3060 fairly similar to the 1080 in general performance?

F variants have a deactivated iGPU for roughly the same price as non-F variants so it doesn't make a lot of sense to buy them, especially if you're a content creator because the intel iGPU provides significant acceleration to a lot of editing programs. That seems to be the gist of the video. So if you're able to return it and get a non-F version without spending much more I'd do so.

Yes, but having the integrated gpu helps accelerate your workflow in ways that don't exclusively depend on raw power. Specifically intel iGPUs are really good for encoding and decoding.

Don't ask to ask, just ask... please 🤨

Ah. Is that much of a factor if you have an actual dedicated GPU..?

Not my ball game but judging from other posts it seems like it can be for content creation editing depending on your workflow.

Hmm. Yea I don’t really do video work, so I guess I am just not informed on this.

For most editing no. But there are some formats that only the 11th and 12th gen cpus can decode currently, like h.265 422 10 bit, so if you're working with those files you're either want the intel igpu or you're dealing with proxies. But if your dealing with formats like prores or DNxHR or h.264 420 8 bit, the igpu won't matter. And that likely won't be a issue for the next gen of nvidia chips.
