How often should I Replace the Watercoolant in a waterloop, Or clean the waterloop.

Go to solution Solved by RONOTHAN##,

Usually you want to do a coolant change every 6-12 months, give or take. I usually do a loop clean at the same time as a coolant change, pretty much just "while you're in there," but it more just depends on the quality of the just drained fluid for whether you need to do a clean or not. If there's things floating around in the loop or if the performance is noticeably worse than when originally started, yeah open up the blocks and make sure they're not clogged. If it looks about as clean as the day you filled it, there's not really a reason to go through and clean everything out.

Should I "Clean" the water-loop, or is all that is necessary pertain to changing the coolant.

The Last Time i cleaned the loop (Warm Water and Vinegar) was last year, the last time I changed the liquid was 6 months ago.

Depends on what you are using and of course environmental considerations. General rule is at least annually. Sometimes it also doesn't hurt to top off inhibitors/biocides between coolant changes as they do get used up.

Mayhems rates stuff for 2-3 years.  I asked them what happens past that and they said it basically becomes plain water, which isn't really a problem if the loop stays sealed (cause any bacteria in there was long ago killed)

You shouldn't "need" to disassemble a loop if there isn't problems like a clogged block.

if yer using clear coolant, just inspect your waterblocks for any gunk blocking its flow

also is the any difference in temps from 1st week when your loop & now

if no gunk & minimal temp diff (less than 5c), don't need to change unless u wanna try out new coolant

Yeah it just depends on how fast your loop uses up the inhibitors/biocides. That will be variable depending on a number of factors for sure.

Agreed. Shouldn't need to disassemble if there are no clogged blocks or use of opaques.
