AF120 vs. SP120

Go to solution Solved by Anthony10,

so the SP fans would be good for case fans?

yep

I know that the SP series is for radiators, and AF for case fans, but does it make a huge difference or any difference at all, in performance, or noise level. So would the SP 120s be bad for case fans?

so my main question is does it really matter what they are used for?

thanks

The SP120's as case fans wouldn't be that bad, but AF120s for radiator use would be absolutely terrible. You'd have to spin at much higher RPMs to achieve the same temperatures, and therefore cause much more noise.

Yes . Yes. AAAAND yes. Also don't buy AF/SP Fans they are as loud as a jet engine.

do you have experience with them?

and i was wondering how loud could they be if i run them off of the define R4 fan controller

Unless you use performance editions, then no, or if you have extremely unrealistic standards and compare them to either more expensive fans or lower RPM models.

Quiet edition AF140's on 7 volt (R4 fan controller 5 / 7 / 12) are very quiet and move decent amount of air.

Yes i am very noise sensitive and i do compare them to good fans. However  i still think that they are terrible for the performance.

well i was either going to get 3 af120s or 3 sp120's, but i could get the sp120's for cheaper, so that is why i was asking

2 pack SP / AF from corsair is about as good price / performance as you get unless its compared to fans on sale.

Then you'll be just fine, unless you want to spend a little more and go with Noctua NF-F12's. Those fans will be much better and quieter than the Corsairs.

i was going to get them but i am going for black and blue themed, and noctua fans, dont agree with that color scheme

I would try and avoid it, but  it will work. There sorta loud in a water cooling build, I would personally use  noctuas and paint them if you want quiet.  There, let's say, inbetween a jet engine and a mouse, where ever that may be.

Yes i have and I may be more noise sensitive than most people but i think they are terrible. Also well it's just a 5,7 and 12 volt fancontroller so it will be as loud as the fans on 5,7 and 12 volt.

As I said before, the normal ones are pretty loud, quiet edition arent very loud. A rule of thumb is fans under 20dB is very quiet.

I don't know it. Haven't heard them side by side. But what i know is that if you run the stock fans on 12 volt it makes me crazy, on 7 volt they annoy me to death, on 5 volts they are ok and when i changed them to silentwings 2 it was good. (In my mothers build)
