Do you think this is a sane idea?

As long as you can think straight while you're doing it. I often find myself singing along to songs and then accidentally writing out the lyrics instead of actually programming. I can imagine podcasts having a similar affect.

Some programmers would find it humorous to keep those lyrics as comments, depending on the song. Others would immediately decline your PR and tell you to remove them, which one are you? 🙂

Absolutely, I have a few I listen to regularly while at work:

  • Stuff You Should Know, a classic staple in your Podcast Pantry.
  • Waveform, from MKBHD and team.
  • Therapy Gecko, for that real 'GTA talk show radio' random content hit.
  • Zero Degrees, a new podcast from a team in the UK, answering some odd questions from listeners.
  • They're Just Movies, great LTT production keeping me in the know about films new and old.

DevOps Engineer working with Azure primarily, Kubernetes evangelist, Born at a very young age, eats things from the microwave, Ultrawide nerd.

Some can. I cannot.

If you can learn to work on quiet, I think that's the best thing. If you have to work with others, it's easier to stay in the flow state when you or they have to talk to each other.

I listen to music when programming. some psychology study found that if you listen to silence or you listen to music that isn't intillectually stimulating (lyrics you understand, conversations) it's easier to focus when studying.

Something about the ears focusing on sounds they recognize or ears being able to tune out noise when there's enough and other small noise doesn't grab your attention.

I would prefer not to write them in the first place..

Also since most of the podcasts I listen to are humorous it will not be a good idea.

I used to listen to multiple things at once.

Some can do it, and you should hold onto the ability to multi task extremely effectively.

I think it is possible if they are in the same medium. When I have one earbud on and people are talking near me I cant understand anything at all.

Ahh okay.

I would watch TV, tutorials, talk on mic and listen to music and program at the same time.

2 earbuds, 2 headphones, and speakers

Rather then podcasts, I listen to edm or lo-fi with little lyrics, or none at all. I find just having beeps and boops helps drown out the surrounding noise when focusing. But like others have said above, each to their own

If you are not used to listening podcasts I would really recommend it while doing nonmental work like gaming and commuting and doing chores.
