Rig running slower with RAM install

bigheloballin

Hi all,

I'm extremely new to PC building, so don't crucify me for my absolute lack of knowledge.

I'm currently trying to build a gaming PC from an HP Elite 8300 SFF. The reason I chose this platform is because I am not a competitive gamer and wanted an ultra-affordable setup. Below are the current specs:

CPU: i7-3770 @ 3.4 GHz

GPU: NVIDIA GeForce GT 1030

RAM: A-Tech RAM 16gb (2x8)

When I was running the GPU w/o RAM upgrade (stock is 2x4gb), GTA V was running around 30 FPS. With the ram upgrade, I am only running 20 FPS. Is there any reason why the FPS would decrease? Did I purchase crappy RAM sticks, or is my processor bottle-necking performance?

Any guidance would be appreciated. Thanks!

First check if your enabled the the speed of your new RAM in the bios. If you don’t know how just ask here and I will tell you or google. It’s most of the time called xmp.

if your motherboard has 4 RAM slots make sure that you don’t have the sticks directly next to each other. There need to be a slot empty between the two for it to use Dual Channel.

SInce replacing your RAM it is possible that the system is running from the iGPU from the 3770 instead of the GT 1030?

Just in case... You verified the system was seeing the full 16 GBs?

System information confirms using GT 1030, so I don't believe so.
