Yeah, don't do that unless you want a GTS 450 that looks like a 3090.

@Pixelfiemind doing a mobile person a favor with a quick list? ❤️

Don't know if op wants a 5800X3D or 12700K, but here's a list I made with the 12700K. The 12700K's gaming performance is very close to that of the 5800X3D and performs like a 5900X outside of gaming. If you want a 5800X3D, simply change the motherboard and CPU. You could get a cheaper PSU if you want, but this one should last a while and could be carried to a future system (though this system will probably last as long as the PSU).

PCPartPicker Part List

CPU: Intel Core i7-12700K 3.6 GHz 12-Core Processor  ($349.99 @ Best Buy)
CPU Cooler: EK EK-AIO Basic 77 CFM Liquid CPU Cooler  ($96.99 @ Amazon)
Motherboard: Gigabyte Z690 AORUS ELITE AX DDR4 ATX LGA1700 Motherboard  ($179.99 @ Amazon)
Memory: TEAMGROUP T-FORCE VULCAN Z 32 GB (2 x 16 GB) DDR4-3200 CL16 Memory  ($79.99 @ Newegg)
Storage: Western Digital Blue SN570 2 TB M.2-2280 NVME Solid State Drive  ($159.99 @ Amazon)
Video Card: MSI GeForce RTX 3090 Ti 24 GB SUPRIM X Video Card  ($1499.00 @ Newegg)
Case: Corsair 4000D Airflow ATX Mid Tower Case  ($94.99 @ Amazon)
Power Supply: EVGA SuperNOVA P6 1000 W 80+ Platinum Certified Fully Modular ATX Power Supply  ($169.99 @ EVGA)
Total: $2630.93
Prices include shipping, taxes, and discounts when available

Im trying to make a gaming computer i do not care what the price is only the preformance.

I would go amd Cpu

much better power usage

however if your going for all out power the I9

with the 5950x being 1-5 percent slower

at like half the power draw

So you suggest AMD if im tight on power but Intel if i go all out?

In my case then i will go AMD if that is the case

Edit: sorry guys my original post sounds dumb, I just dont know that much oops....

to be honest the first part was a joke but truly if you want a good cpu for a big budget go for a thread ripper. I dont know to much but it is definitely better than a core i9. So something like a AMD Ryzen Threadripper 2950X Processor (YD295XA8AFWOF)

or AMD YD297XAZAFWOF Ryzen Threadripper 2970WX 24 Core, 48 Thread Processor, Pack of 1

or AMD Ryzen Threadripper 3970X 32-Core, 64-Thread Unlocked Desktop Processor

there is a big price difference because of your big budget so that is up to you but to be over the top use one of these.

those are sever cpus and wont be great for gaming

you dont need 32 cores to game they wont be very perfromante

what i mean with the power thing is

the 5950 flatout uses about 150-180w power

the I9 uses 300+W

if your willing to have a massive psu

and watercooling and what the best possible cpu I9

if you want somthing a bit more sensible 5950X

but like Ryukkio said the cpu that makes the most senes is the 5800X 3D

No. Don’t go Threadripper and especially second gen at that for a gaming computer. https://www.pugetsystems.com/labs/articles/12th-Gen-Intel-Core-CPU-Review-Roundup-2248/

https://www.pugetsystems.com/labs/articles/Premiere-Pro-CPU-performance-Intel-Core-X-10000-vs-AMD-Threadripper-3rd-Gen-1629/

12900k even beats out the 3970x in a lot of workstation multi thread uses while using less power than the 3970x. Core count isn’t everything. IPC and clocks are.

in all reality, if you want the best gaming orientated build while not spending $5k on it a 12700k and 3080 12gb would be hard to beat

I'm not actually trying to be as grumpy as it seems.

I will find your mentions of Ikea or Gnome and I will /s post.

To get back to the original topic. You say the cost doesn’t matter. What’s the budget in reality? That makes a big difference in what gets suggested as parts.

For purely gaming. I vote for 5800X3D as well. Much more power efficient and the 3d-cashe do a impressive boost for gaming performance. How ever in many other task than gaming, 5800X3D is slower that 5800X do to lower clock speed. 5950X is way overkill for purely gaming and you are better of paying more for the 3d-cashe 5800X3D has. If you do much work as well, 5950X makes sense.

But also have in mind AMD is soon to release Zen 4 and Intel raptor lake 13 gen CPU's. It might be worth waiting for that, cause either amd and Intel older cpu becomes cheaper or you can get the newest tech. Just a little advice.

To the OP, the absolute fastest gaming oriented CPU would be the i9. But if like me you prefer less power consumption then a 5900x/5950x would be more ideal.

For raw speed, the 5800x3D would be the one.
