1440P Gaming GPU's

I'm aware the new gen is almost upon us however we all know what happened last time when we was told to wait. So I'm currently looking for a decent GPU to complete my build and perhaps max out some settings at 1440p in Red Dead 2 and some other upcoming games later this year.

 

Any recommendations?

Depending on budget you should get at least

 

NVIDIA RTX 3060ti or better

AMD RX 6700X or better

Right now my budget is £500. I did think about the 6650XT that's priced at £379?

It's a Sapphire Pulse 6650 XT and it's priced the same as the regular 6600 XT.

6650XT is a good choice. Thanks to game optimization the 6650XT trades blows with the 6700XT not allowing it to get much of a lead that it's supposed to have. Save yourself the £100 and stick with the 6650XT, just pick one of the better versions.

Not worth it if the RX 6600 is a lot cheaper because that card is just a tiny bit slower vs 6650XT. If the price difference is not that large then sure, get the 6650XT.

The Sapphire Pulse is reasonably priced currently. Red Devil and Nitro prices are stupidly priced close to AIB 3060 Ti models.

RX 6650 XT is less than 10% faster than RX 6660 XT but is almost 20% faster than RX 6600.

I wanted to say that you should get the RX 6600 XT if the 6650 XT is more expensive but I completely messed up the similar names of the cards.

 

So for 1440p both the RX 6650 XT and RX 6600 XT are good cards and even the RX 6600 will do just fine but it's definitely noticeably slower since it's almost 20% difference in performance.

 

The extra £90 is still a lot for the difference in performance in those cards imo but it's up to you. Probably still justyfiable.

If by 1440p max settings you mean the game never dips under 60FPS then I can't guarantee that for all games but if you're willing to bump down some settings from Ultra to High in some games while not really impacting visuals then it can almost certainly go well beyond 60FPS in most games.

 

The RTX 3060ti trades blows with RX 6650XT. There are some games where the RX 6650 XT is closer to RTX 3060 in performance but there are also games where the RX 6650 XT catches up with RTX 3070... it really depends on which game in particular you want to play.

 

I personaly game on 1440p 165Hz with RTX 3060ti. I don't max out settings though (except textures) and I can comfortably play at roughly 100FPS to 120FPS in most games while having great visuals. You should have simmilar experience with RX 6650XT. I would't pay that much extra for the RTX 3060ti unless you also do a lot of productivity stuff that requires CUDA.

High detail would be my aim I know ultra settings are sometimes a waste. My system is built around gaming and for productivity didn't enter my thoughts.

Both are stable. For fringe cases and some graphics developers no idea but for a casual consumer both are perfectly fine.

Any reviews on the Sapphire Pulse? It's the cheapest 6650 XT I can get unless I pony up extra for a Devil or Nitro which is 3060 Ti territory.

I don't have experience with that one specifically but my sapphire Pulse 6800xt has been great so far and I used to have Sapphire Nitro+ 480 for 6 years, they are a solid brand, I wouldn't question Sapphire's quality.

Sapphire and XFX are the top brands for Radeon from what I've read and been told. Not that they can't mess up from time to time and not that anyone else is bad but that they're the go to. I went with XFX and had nothign but great customer support from them.

 

Sapphire is a good safe choice.

Back in the day I used to own the Sapphire X1600XT and that had solid performance and build quality. Glad to hear it's remained that way. The MERC is priced a higher at £415. Remembered when XFX produced NVIDIA cards, 6600GT was my last card from them too!

 

Got some choices now... going to give it 2 weeks to see if the prices drop on both and might pull the trigger and I'll report back with my choice.

If you can wait about a month, you could probably pick up a used card well above that for sub $500. There's already cards on ebay way better than that 6650xt for less than $500.

That's an option however has risks attached as usual, I'm in the market for new currently.

Sapphire 6700 non-XT coming into stock from next week priced up at £399. Could push the prices down on both 6650XT and 3060 Ti? Not sure how the 6700 stacks up against the rest of the field, 10%-12% performance increase over 6650XT?
