Upgrading my monitor should I go for higher refresh rate or higher resolution?

I currently use an LG 25" ultra wide (IPS) for a mixture of creative work and gaming. I've recently upgraded from a gtx1060 to a second hand Rtx 2070 so am not planning on upgraded my GPU again for quite a while, but I am wanting to up my screen size to a 34" ultra wide (can't go back to normal wide and preferably want to stick with an IPS screen) for my budget it seems I can either go for a high refresh rate but stick at 2560x1080 or I can stay at 60-75hz but up the resolution to 3440x1440. Which do you think I should choose based on your experiences and my GPU?

I REALLY like my ultrawide... it would be hard to go back to not having one now that I have had it. But, 60-75hz also isn't much. My ultrawide is 100 Hz which I find acceptable, but I do wish it was more. So....... its hard to say tbh. If your not as worried about pure performance, ultrawide IMO is a better experience both in games and for doing work/photo editing/normal usage.

34" UW are usually 1440p which is pushing the edge of the 2070.  Do they make 34" 108p UW's now?

 

I'd go 3440x1440 34/35".

I'd go 3440x1440 34/35". 

Yea that's why I'm a little bit hesitant to go for a 1440p as the 2070 might not be quite powerful enough to get the most out of it but not sure.

But yea there seems to be plenty of 1080p ones out there that have between 75-200hz refresh rates.

I will go for 34" 3440x1440 144hz monitor.

 

Gaming in 60fps ~ 80fps is very OK.

My 2080 *struggles* with 1440x3440 at 100hz. It does it fine, just have to drop quality.... and even then lots of games dip down into the 70's even with DLSS on.

 

But, this has worked ok for me personally.

Go for color performance and HDR (not HDR400 crap) if you are doing creative work. You can still get 1440p or 4K for media consumption.

Forget about high refresh rate, it's useless unless you are super competitive gamers playing fast games.

VRR is also nice to have.

However this creates an unfortunate impossible combination of no affordable gaming monitors support real HDR and no affordable creative monitors support VRR, you decide.

At that size I wouldn't get anything lower than 3440x1440p.

 

(I personally not a fan of UW but based on pixel density)
