Can somebody send me a .flac song?

rippy4500

I know this is kind of a weird question but can somebody send me a .flac song so i can compare it to spotify? ive never heard lossless audio and i want to know if i can tell the difference between lossless and lossy audio.

Also im looking for a lossless streaming service like qobuz or tidal so i can get more lossless music if i think its worth it.

edit: something not copyrighted if you can

Synchedin claims to have royalty free music and that they offer FLAC downloads : https://synchedin.com/discover-music

So you could download the FLAC track and then convert it to MP3 using Audacity or LameXP or Foobar (adding the lame encoder) and compare the quality by switching between files.

Everyone is fully capable of hearing the differences between lossy compression, and lossless audio. The only issue is that not everyone knows what to listen for. The science shows a significant impact, which can even be visually represented in the waveform of two otherwise identical masters of the same song. Very old, and very silly question dating back to the introduction of the formats themselves. It's been answered time and time again. Use your arrow keys to swap back-and-forth between the two waveforms, this will help to visualize. You're looking at decibels of difference in amplitude between various frequencies, as a start.

Lossless source: Yosi Horikawa - Timbres (Original 24bit/96kHz 3361kbps FLAC file)

Lossy Spotify source: Yosi Horikawa - Timbres (Compressed 16bit/44.1kHz 320kbps Ogg Vorbis file)

As for streaming services, I can wholeheartedly recommend the Tidal HiFi tier. It has a much larger library of music than Qobuz or Amazon Music, and a much better UI. Amazon Music HD is also a great offering in terms of the accessibility of lossless and Hi-Res files, although the UI isn't as good. Qobuz is at the back of the pack for library, behind to Amazon Music. Tidal is #1 for largest library between the three. Avoid the Tidal Masters tier however, MQA is garbage and all marketing nonsense.

Unfortunately the Tidal HiFi tier is also MQA, just with flagging removed so your DAC/player does not recognise it as such. But you are actually being served the exact same files as on the Master tier.
This means that for any song marked with the 'MASTER' label, you actually cannot stream it losslessly on Tidal at all.

Qobuz or Amazon HD are better alternatives until Tidal addresses this. (If they ever do)

That's unfortunate they went and did that... that was their saving grace in my eyes until this point. I can't preach much besides the UI, and discoverability now.

Thank you for bringing that to our attention! GoldenSound returns with the facts, lol.

Yeah I was pretty disappointed too 😞
The MQA stuff was annoying but at least you could turn it off/opt out.
Now you can't and so it's not really a lossless service for a huge number of tracks.

A real shame
