Counter Strike Source on DVD

I have bought a copy of CSS on DVD it has a disc and code sheet but the code was used on steam already but I’m now wondering from anyone here, would it work to install the disc and use the code in some installer that’s not steam (similar to other PC games) or am I screwed here? The reason I can’t test is because I don’t have access to my PC atm

Well it’s not a steam code, steam just can redeem it, in reality it’s a code to verify you are not pirating in the installer for the game it seems

Pretty sure not viable, those codes are submitted and checked against the server.
At the server then that particular code will be marked as redeemed.
I mean if its usable for other launcher, pretty sure it'd be heavily exploited by now.

I know sims games does this and gta iv and other games, just asking if it uses normal PC game verification or needs steam always. It seems I will just have to wait until I have my PC ig

That's not typically how it works you either get a code for Steam, a code for EGS, a code for Rockstar or whatever... you can't use a code for one on any other for obvious reasons.

Excuse me for being used to old PC games lol, I have just always been used to codes being multiple use in the game installer, same for newer games I play like sims 3, just one time on whatever store front allows redeem

I read that before making this post and sadly it didn’t contain the info I needed, that was for someone who had no code, I have a code just don’t know if the game needs steam or if it is like PC games used to be with an installer and code prompt there

I know it is already solved but I remembered CSS requiring Steam. So I dug up my CSS copy and on the back there is a notice which states: "[...] You must activate this product via internet by registering for a Steam account and accepting the SSA (Steam Subscriber Agreement). [...]"
