MSI MPG X570 Gaming Plus - Which processor to use? (2700X/5600X?)

Building a pc for a friend as a gift as he hasnt had a pc for some years now, got the X570 when i was drunk at a party 2 days ago.

(I know, how the hell do you get pc parts for cheap when drunk.. I dont even understand either.. 110$ for the board alone lol)

Anyway, its never been opened and im not sure which bios-version is in it. But im hoping it supports the 5000-series.

Out of the box, it supports 2000 and 3000 series processors. Would it be fine to assume after an update it supports 5000 series to?

Looking at 2700x or 5600x currently, even if the 5600x is 110$ more expensive buying used.

Which would be the best case for this pc?

Will probably throw a 1070 or a 2060 into the build later if i can find it for less than 250$.

(This being norway, i have my doubts.)

edit: Its use case will 90% be games, and 10% be for work-related tasks, it will be lightly used for gaming.. Not that heavy demanding games really.

Already have my hands or rather.. eyes on a 3600X or 3700X processor too, but would rather go for a 5000-series if i can.

You would be updating the motherboard yourself (or if this is done at a local shop, you'd tell them why you want the BIOS updated) so you would check the website of the motherboard yourself to see which specific version of the BIOS supports Ryzen 5000 processors.

Based on their site, version 7C37vAG is the version name

https://www.msi.com/Motherboard/MPG-X570-GAMING-PLUS/support#cpu

I recommend updating to a version in between what you have now and the newest version to ensure a smooth transition.

The 5000 series is too new to have used prices at any decent bargain. People are pretty much all still using them.

I WILL find your ITX build thread, and I WILL recommend the SIlverstone Sugo SG13B

That board has bios flashback so you can update it even without a cpu installed. I would go 5600/X if just gaming.

People seem to dump them for 200$ on the used marketplace in norway, a 3600X runs for 170$, guess its different from where im from and your country 🙂

Even seeing 5900X and 12900K processors on the used market for -20 their new price.. Some dont even do that.

Nice, couldnt find this on the website/box itself.

Good to know so i wont need another cpu just to boot/update x)

Will see if i can get the 2700x cheaper so i wont need to force-update the mobo.

Just picked up some fans and got a confirmation on a full-tower case so this is gonna be fun..

All tho this case is from 2008.. Im sure we can just drill holes in it if the X570 doesnt fit.

ATX was standardized in 1995 and the latest ATX Motherboard standard revision is 2.2, released in 2004. Unless it's a really weird OEM case, or the X570 is EATX (some cases don't like how wide EATX boards are), it should fit fine.

Is the Ryzen 7 3700X a similar price to a 5600X or 5600? I would also consider one of those
