Is XMP profile enabling for 2666MHz safe and worth it?? Now it runs on 2133MHz without XMP enabled

Might as well go for 3200mhz XMP profile first, if it doesnt work try selecting 2666mhz manually.

It will not work as memory overclocking is not supported for B460 boards. The OP will have to turn on XMP and then manually set the clock speed to DDR4-2666, as that's the max official speed for the 10400F.

CPU  :    Core i5-10400f (Up to 2666MHz)

RAM :     Vengeance® LPX 16GB (2 x 8GB) DDR4 DRAM 3200MHz

Motherboard :    MSI MAG B460M BAZOOKA (Up to 2933MHz)

  1. Is XMP profile enabling for 2666MHz safe and worth it??
  2. Does the XMP profile work for 2666MHz??

PS - Yes, I know what you think about my RAM speed for the selected CPU 😄 Forget about it.

its safe to try, and if it doesn't work, then just go back down to 2666 as the guy above me said

Wait, seriously? Intel still doesn't let you overclock your ram over locked firmwares to specific chipsets, still? Was about to comment that they could, but I guess I've been spoiled by AMD.

edit : just looked it up, seems true.

They unlocked it for B560 and B660, but B460 has it locked out. The reason that the max supported speed is DDR4-2933 is that 10th gen i7 and i9 parts support DDR4-2933, and so when one of those parts is installed, the board is allowed to clock the RAM to that speed.

I hope someday AMD releases another R5 X400 CPU so that we can get sub-$200 enthusiast class chips again. The R5 1400 was a good value chip back in the day, especially if you were willing to do some overclocking, and it made a great entry point into the AM4 ecosystem. I hope someday there is a Ryzen 5 10400.

I mean... We do have a few AMD products sub-$200 and they all nearly perform the same in games.
Like the R5 5500 for $140

In GPU limited scenarios, sure, they do. You could also put the i3 12100F in those charts and it would perform identically, too. Honestly, even the Pentium G7400 might do okay, considering how low the CPU usage is

The R5 5500 is over 20% slower (sometimes even 30% slower) than the R5 5600 according to GN's testing, and I'd trust them over some random YouTuber who disables likes/dislikes (in spite of YouTube removing dislikes) and doesn't allow comments. That's shady, and makes me question whether or not the testing is even real.

That said, at that discounted price of $134 after the promo code, the R5 5500 is a reasonable offering. You can build an R5 5500 system for slightly less than a Core i3 12100F one thanks to cheap AM4 motherboards. The original $160 pricing was dumb, as for just 25% more, you could get the R5 5600, which is not only faster, but also has PCIe Gen 4 capabilities, but at $134, it almost makes sense.
