I now have 5 complete PCs in the house. What's a good LAN game I can play with 4 close friends that the weakest cpu/gpu below can handle?

basic specs starting from the weakest:

i5 2310, GTX 970, 8GB RAM

i5 3540, GTX 960, 16GB RAM

i5 3570k RTX 2060s, 24GB RAM

r7 3700x RTX 3070, 32GB RAM

r9 3900x RTX 3080, 32GB RAM

This is all hypothetical, I don't actually have any friends...

5 people make me kinda think CS:GO, that should run on all of those systems (though it will definitely run best on the 3080 system). You could have a full team to do competitive games with.

A more fun one I've played kinda recently with friends is SpiderHeck, it's a very fun game that can run on basically nothing, though IIRC it might be limited to just 4 players.

Left 4 Dead 2 can work, teams of 4..

Dynabomber , Bomber Man type of games...

Games like Dune, Red Alert, Diablo etc have 2-4 player over lan or one computer can host a game and others connect to the game server.

Here's games tagged with the "Multiplayer LAN" keyword: https://store.steampowered.com/category/multiplayer_lan/

"Local Multiplayer & Party Games" keyword: https://store.steampowered.com/category/multiplayer_local_party/

Battlefront II 2005 is what I used to play for LAN games with my siblings. If you all run the same mods it works fine, so you can load in additional maps or characters. You can get it regularly on sale for like $4 or something too (I'd always recommend the GOG version because it's simpler to mod as you don't have to deal with steam). And it'll run on a half-baked slightly moldy potato.

Weak?  As in like 30 year old gaming computer weak? What about the original deus ex?  It’s a single person rpg and the graphics aren’t stellar but it’s very involved.  It has an arena mode though which is a bit like low Rez csg. So PvP and jumping about and explosions and greabbing guns and stuff. It’s a few bucks on steam. Another option  is an internet board game thing. There are a bunch of those.  It’s not really LAN because it’s a cloud thin client thing, but anything that can run a browser with Java can use it.  So 30 year old office PCs should be good. Warcraft 1 would be another.  It’s not an mmorpg, it’s a real time strategy game. That one I think needs directX10.1 or something, but it should be pretty potato these days.  Wasn’t when it came out.  Neverwinter nights1 would also be cool. That IS an rpg, and it works a lot like a d&d game.  Co-op with a dungeon master (who would be you) and stuff.

Not a pro, not even very good.  I’m just old and have time currently.  Assuming I know a lot about computers can be a mistake.

Life is like a bowl of chocolates: there are all these little crinkly paper cups everywhere.

BZFlag is a simple yet disturbingly addictive tank shooter game that you can run on your lan.

Xonotic is an old school Quake type FPS that will run on a potato.

There are a number of silly fun game plugins for the spigot minecraft server too, but it's a for cost client and it's not plug and play like the other 2.
