I think i prefer the current z87 boards, they just seem right, im not sure what i dont like about these boards.

Hmmm... it will, unless you route the cable downwards instead of to the side.

While definitely an option, that would look pretty bad.  Seems poorly designed.  Do you know what numbers light up there or what they represent?

I think it is for problemshooting, if it fails to boot, it will display a number that you can look up in the manual or online to tell you what the problem is.

While the vrm cooling and color choices don't look that great, gigabyte still has the best looking black PCBs ever

See Asus that is how you decorate your motherboards. With interesting colours that work with most builds. Even still I would have preferred if they were both mat black. That way they go with everything. Still better then gold.

Asus make gold boards. Gold goes with nothing. The only Asus z97 boards we have seen have been gold.
