What’s the difference between the 5600 and the 5500?

Thats $19 for the letter X not performance.

In @Ahhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh 's build it has a gtx 1650 super and an i3-10100F so they would need a new mobo for newer Intel cpu's and AMD cpu's. So there are many new options for upgrading so Alder Lake series Cpu's could be a option instead of AMD depending on the price.

I bet you can easily overclock a 5600 to x, and save $19.

Ok, didn't know since it is hard to find overclocking vidoes

I’ve been looking at an upgrade and I saw both the 5500 and the 5600 with the 5500 a lot cheaper so I was wondering what it is and if I should get it instead?

Get the 5600 if the price difference is not "a lot cheaper" as you said. The 5500 is fine if it is cheaper. The 5500 is just the under clocked 5600.

Well it’s around $220 AUD for the 5500 and the 5600 costs $310 AUD so I think I’ll go for the 5500

The 5600 is a clocked down 5600X, and is ok, it compares to a i5-12400, but the 5500 is done from dumped silicon not good enough for 5600G and is just bad even compared to an 12100, don't get this !

Have a look at GN review

Another question is what cpu are you upgrading from because there could be different options. Full system specs?

It's an underclocked 5600G not 5600, it doesn't support PCIe 4.0 and have only 19MB of cache, which is almost half of what the 5600(X) has at 35MB. It's quite a bit slower in games compared to the 5600, in many cases it's about the same as the 3600.

The 5600 is $90 more than the 5500 and for only $19 more they can get a 5600x which I think is better if price is not the biggest thing in the world.

1. Not much of a performance gap that would be a problem in games

2. A new 12 gen intel mobo is expensive in AU

3. You do have a point but the 5600 is only better because of cache and clock speeds and if you think the 5500 is not an option then the 5600x beats the 5600 and the 5600x is only $19 more. Better to spend $19 dollars for more fps if you are already spending $90 extra.

12th gen intel could be a better upgrade depending on prices on a mobo

I bet you can easily overclock a 5600 to x, and save $19.

Well I'm upgrading to an rtx 3060 which is the whole point of the upgrade of the cpu, will the 12th gen i3 bottleneck the 3060?

Should be fine, get an i5-12400F if you wan't to be a bit future proof. As in future proof I mean for games that might need 6 cores.
