Buying a new monitor

HelgeoX

Hello, i'm looking to purchase a new monitor for gaming. I'm looking for smooth gameplay at minimum 120hz, and i want no less than 27".

Currently i have a 27" 1080p 60hz monitor

My specs are listed over at pcpartpicker: https://no.pcpartpicker.com/user/HelgeoX/saved/#view=V4s8Q7

My budget will be around 450$

So with all of this in mind, do you have any suggestions for monitors? And what should i be looking for when purchasing a monitor, thanks in advance!

the best 1440p 144hz monitor in that budget would be the MSI MAG274QRF-QD

Here's a shorthand list of what to look for:

- Resolution / size. I'm sure you know this.

- Panel Technology. Most monitors in this price range will say either IPS or VA panel type. You can see a brief rundown on their differences here.

- Refresh Rate, again sounds like you know this but Pixel Response Time is another very important thing to consider.

- Brightness. Even if you use your monitor in a dimly lit room you may want HDR as it makes some games look better.

With all that in mind I personally use a Samsung Odyssey G7 for a couple of reasons.

It's HDR600 certified. Not the brightest thing on the market but it makes a very noticeable difference in the games that have it supported.

It's a VA panel which is slower than an IPS, however it offers superior contrast and black levels. VAs generally are slower than IPS however with the 244hz refresh rate / 1MS pixel response time makes it plenty fast enough for me. It strikes a good balance of being fast enough while also being enjoyable for the more cinematic experiences. I understand that the curve can be very off putting to some however.
