Hello, my brother recently have brought his old laptop to show me how it works, obviously I'm not surprise because I have deal with PCs from the 2000's, but what did surprise me is the fact that he said that there is something called "cache card" or "cache module" to upgrade a PC's performance, so, I'm looking forward what is the exact name of that component and if it does exist.

I'm still not sure if he meant about the DRAMs or SRAMs, but i think there should be a specialized memory for that.

I seem to recall in the really old days there might have been PCs with a slot that would let you add CPU cache. I could be making that up tho.

 

They also might be referring to "SSD cache" such as this:

how old is the laptop? with really old PC's, chache was just chips you could slot into the motherboard.

Cache on a Stick was a thing around Pentium era. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Cache_on_a_stick

 

I don't know if it ever made it to laptops though. Before that era, on desktops, mobos could have multiple sockets where you can plug in cache chips directly.
