How "scary"/ Should I update bios

Intel i7-8700

American Megatrends p1.00 3/20/18

b360 xtreme(asrock)

16g adata ddr4 xpgz1

Thermal take 600w 80 plus

Just installed a samsung 970 plus, had a strange issue when installing geforce/nvidia drivers that resulted in blue screen & forced recovery of a 1 hour old fresh Win10 install . After talking to Nvidia in chat, guy recommended updating my bios first.

Ive only done this once before on an old alienware laptop, I had a tech walk me through it over the phone.

After researching Ive found Im on p1.00 which is the first release. If Im reading everything correct they are on version 4.20 which makes me feel like Im loosing out.

I feel I should update it but Im curious of exactly how "scary" it is or if thats hyped up knowing the cost/hassle of a bricked board? The only other stop for me is on the website recommending that if your PC is running normal dont do this.

Would you recommend updating it? flashing with USB or trying the windows version?

Anything from advice to horror stories is greatly appreciated

Flash it with a usb flash drive plugged into the back of the motherboard and just don't touch anything while it's updating.

If it loses power midst the update it will brick the motherboard.

Just don’t unplug it while it’s doing the update…. It’ll be fine. And if it seems like it’s taking a while, just let it take a while. It’ll do it’s thing.

If by some crazy chance the power to your house does go out while your doing it…. You will need a new mobo. But the odds of that are extremely low.

Not necessarily, you can use a BIOS flasher to fix it.

It depends on where you live.

While a lot of people here on the forums are from first world countries, there are people here from countries with an unreliable power source.

It's more scary to keep using this piece of garbage than updating the BIOS.

Just update the BIOS. Sometimes you have to for a proper operation. Newer BIOS versions increase system compatibility and stability.
