The spire ridge cases, great if you lack money

brownninja97

After the hell that was the aerocool threads ill try and calm down and let you judge instead of myself shoving my opinion down your throat, people have expressed their issues with me and ill try to resolve them. let me know if you prefer the old version or if this newer style is better.

One thing im not changing is music for the threads, yes i shall be known as the musical reporter.

This should be suitable for the situation.

Music

Well lets get on to it then

Spire_Ridge_6601_01.jpgSpire_Ridge_6602_01.jpg

Introducting the 6601 and the 6602, i see spire have taken the naming style of Lian li because it confuses the hell out of me. Anyways these cases are basically the same however front is slightly different on them. For the 6601(left) the front IO are all in the top 5.25inch drive bay so you only have two drive bays but thats not that big of  a problem, you are likely to have one odd drive and you will not need a dual slot fan controller for a case like this well normally.

There is one usb 3 and one usb 2, the 3.0 is a passthrough(connects to rear IO instead of using a 19 pin to the mobo). Then there is the normal power, reset, audio.

Dont be fooled, the brushed aluminum on the left is plastic but it looks pretty similar and our hands dont have the ferocity to react with hydrocarbons.

Spire_Ridge_6601_02.jpg

Onto the interior(remember this is the same for both cases). Sadly it has a top mounted power supply which i never understand, im not sure if it costs more for a bottem mount but it just seems like a big hassle to deal with top mounted psus, you have to fumble to hold it and screw the screws in whereas bottem mounts are simple, i guess you could place it upside down.

there are no fans in this case in stock config, add them yourselves, it seems understable when you look at the price. As for mounts its a mixed bag, mounts for 80mm fans, 90mm fans and a few 120mm slots.

It comes with a spare pci bracket which is odd, its not a special one with a hole in it, its just a normal one.

Cut-outs are decent but there is no cpu cut-out *cries* so you will be removing that motherboard.

On the topic of cut-outs the cables might not be a problem, the 0.5mm side panels with rolled metal(AEROCOOL) mean that cables should sit nicely instead of warping the jesus out of the case.

two spaces for 3.5drives(no ssd mounts at all)

two spaces for 5.25 drives or three on the 6602

Two year warrenty

I just said two three tiem, half life confirmed.

spire_01377766883.jpg

Comes with this stuff, honestly i liked the case and then i saw the stand-offs they arent black, so this is a no go.

Anyone have an idea about what those white things are, ive got a crazy amount of glare on my screen(gg sun) so i cant make out what they are.

No. Better get like core 1000 or one of the cheap cooler master ones, these look way too awful to buy.

This is the one and only time where i will recommend the core 1000 over another case, i hate the c1000 but this case is worse, a lot worse.

If you lack money there are a bunch of cases that are better than this.

http://www.overclockers.co.uk/showproduct.php?prodid=CA-083-XG ATX on the cheap.

There are tons if I am honest that don't look like crap and are cheap you just need to look around. Besides you can pick up second hand Apple G8 (I think that is what they are called) cases off of Ebay for £50 if you want a modding case.

Umm yeah a £75 is not what id call cheap, this case for is some who has like £150 and has to pull some magic out of their ass or something of that tone, i expect many Am1 systems to be used in these sorts of cases. I like cheap cases but id rather stay with zalman, coolermaster, maybe bitfenix and xigmatek. i probably forgot a few, maybe next but i dont really like the source not sure why.

If your on a really bad budget, I guess. Though, I would go for something a lot nicer as upgrading your case isn't really a priority and you may be stuck with that for a very very long time.

I dig the side panel of the 6602, and the overall look of the 6601. First looks a bit too cheap, begging for smudges.

Nice price, but I really hate when cases lack cable routing. That's almost always a deal breaker for me when looking at cases.

This is the literally the cheapest case you can buy on the Uk market. It's £29.99. Pair this with a the cheapest AMD APU and an ultra cheap mobo. With some low speed RAM and a cheap ass PSU you have your build. I am gonna say £150 at the most. But I haven't priced it up.

I'm not a fan of either of those cases, but for the money I'd pick the one on the left, the 6601.

I was not aware you could get an ATX case for £15 brand new, even if it's not to your taste it's still a new clean case for very little money.

IMO the best budget cases are simple, versatile, functional. The original Antec 300, for example.

My build:

CPU: Intel Core i5 2500K @ 4.0GHz Motherboard: Gigabyte Z68X-UD3H-B3 GPU: NVIDIA GeForce GTX 770 RAM: 12GB Corsair Vengeance DDR3 1600 Storage: Samsung 120GB 840 SSD Cooling: Corsair H100 with Noctuas Case: Fractal Arc Midi R2
