So, i came across GOG which sells only DRM free games. Was wondering if you could do the same thing on steam or on EGS. I personally prefer "owning" my copy of the game and having backups cos I don't wanna be left in the dark when valve or epic decides to pull the plug on their game launchers.

Is there a way to disable DRM from steam and EGS or is buying a physical CD the only way ??

No, it's a decision GOG did for their collection of old games but that isn't shared by other distributors. And physical CDs won't help, usually all you find in the box nowadays is a code to redeem on your account and maybe a disc to preload some of the content but wouldn't run on its own.

Welcome to the the wonderful world we live in. You don't own anything, for the most part. Even physical media items usually come with a licensing agreement, meaning they are literally allowing to use to it, only under specific conditions. In other words, you don't own it.

That is a hard pass on trying random executable files off the internet.  Even a program I know to be safe and have used for probably 10 years got wiped out and the newer version ended up with me having compromised accounts and needing to get a new credit card...

dude/dudette. The number of games there when compared to steam is very low.

Removing DRM or linking to tools aiming for such falls under our rules on piracy (bypassing set limitations of software/service/device):

  • Discussion on engaging in hacking or cracking is not allowed, including:
    • Bypassing security features, restrictions, or filters (including parental filters, school restrictions, or workplace monitoring), including on your own device.
