AMD FX 8350 build and future proofing

Hi!

I am new here and i just sold my laptop to buy myself a gaming desktop. My budget is about 800-850 euros and this is what i am thinking of buying:
AMD FX 8350

Gigabyte GA 990FX UD3 Rev 3.0
Kingston 8GB DDR3 1600Mhz
Powercolor Radeon HD 7870 Myst edition
XFX 650W Core Edition
Corsair Carbide 300R

Also i need to buy a monitor which means -110 euros for the rig itself.

I want this build to last a couple of years and i may watercool it when i get some more money to overclock that cpu and gpu to get more performance in the near feature.

What do you people think? Is this a good selection of components? should i change something? Please let me know!

Thanks.

You can save some money and get the fx 8320 instead of the 8350. You can use the money on a after market heat sink so you can overclock. You can get the 8320 in the same range as the 8350. (Silicon lottery)

I would say its a good build and make sure you get the gpu from a place that has the neversettle bundle. Actually one difference id say. Get a 7870 xt (le in some places). Its barely more expensive and is basically an underclocked 7950 that didnt reach the standards to be a full fledged 7950 however it works fine and you can overclock it to the point that it makes a 7970.

I agree with Animus, get the FX 8320, you can find it now for 164$ , grab yourself a good aftermarket cooler, like the NZXT Havik 140 & you'll be able to overclock it to 4.6Ghz, FX 8350s & 8320s are binned similarly so they overclock similarly well.

Thanks for the suggestion but wont i have less overclocking headroom with the 8320 than with the 8350? Will I be able to get the 8320 at 4.4 - 4.5 Ghz easily without adding to much voltage? I don't want to have heat problems especial now that summer is near.( I have never used an AMD chip so i don't know their max voltage/temp)

Typically, an FX 8350 will achieve 4.8 Ghz & an FX 8320 will achieve 4.6Ghz on the same cooling solution.

Best advice is try and get the formula Z board as its an overclockers dream to work with... and the onboard sound is very very good...

Isn't the XFX 650W Core PSU made by seasonic? My other choice is the  corsair TX650 V2.

XFX or Corsair?

do you really need an 8 core cpu cause the 8350 is about £160 you can get a 6350 for £110 or a 6300 for £90.

£100= 118euro

it may be 8 cores but its performance really doesnt show it unless your REALLY taking advantage of them in multithreaded applications

As i said on my first post i want this system to last some years without updates. My laptop(that i sold to build a desktop) had an I7 2630QM which really helped me in video/audio conversion and rendering videos but the graphics card was horrible. Now that new games initialize up to 8 cores i think it is a good investment for the future. Correct me if i am wrong ;)

I was thinking about that  but i want a gaming pc so bad

you can save money and make it last for years with a good 6 core, like the FX6300 is a good start as it just uses 95w and not 125w like the 8 core and many others.

when you look at the high end intel chips there 4 core, so a core core stock at 3.5ghz is fine, also for gaming your best to get something like a Evga 660 ti superclocked with 3 gig of onboard ram (or 2 of them) and a good set of system ram and you will be fine.

also remember you need to have money left for a SSD is a good idea for windows, and get a slimline HDD for storage etc.

I had one of them PSU and it was more noisey then what i have now, i got a Evga Supernova 750w Gold and love it.

Blue ray players are pretty cheap now to.

always leave some room and remember the more clock speeds and cores, and things you have the more power comsumption and heat it gives out.

remember to get a good cooler. i like the Zalman LQ315

got to love Asus components

Prices have already dropped, I posted about it in the news section & it was featured in the last live stream.

I also would very highly encorouge you to get an 8 core, since all future console ports will undeniably use 8 cores.

XFX is plenty trustworthy that PSU is fine.

Agreed there's practically no reason to get an Intel chip until Haswell or unless you're on socket 2011 which AMD still can't touch.

Please quote me if you want me to see your post about my post, otherwise I may lose track of the thread and never see it.

I'd love to help, but I'm probably gonna' have to ask for more info before we can get anything done.

Have a wonderful day.

I got my FX 8320 up to 4.8Ghz but it was around 58 to 60 on full load, with a Corsair H100i, so I left it at 4.4, 20 at idle, 44 on load. Great CPU.

I was just reading reviews from this PSU and people seem to be happy with it and thats the best I can get so i will stick with it

I already have a Samsung 830 128GB SSD and a 500GB 2.5" HDD so storage is not a problem here and i dont use an optical drive

I still belive that the 8 core cpu will be better than the 6 core cpu in some years(as TechFan@ic says) so thats why i want an 8 core now so that it will last at least 2-3 years before i need to update it(and if I update it will most probably be steamroller)

Also a lot of people suggest an NZXT or a Zalamn cooler so i will see which one i can get cheaper  ^_^

How much money do you have to spend on a CPU cooler ? the NZXT Havik 140mm is the sweet spot for performance & cost at the moment.
