Corsair RM850 2021 Version

Mista G

I've recently picked up this unit out of recommendations and all is well however, I can't seem to find any reviews on it or who it's made by other than Corsair branding. Any ideas?

RM, not RMx, right?

Pretty much the same thing.   Just lower hold up time (smaller bulk caps) and different PFC MOSFETs.  Fan is different.  The new RMx uses the ML fan while the RM uses the tried and true Hong Hua rifle bearing fan.

Ironically, the RM is actually much quieter at full load than the RMx.  This is because the fan blade design of the ML is not as good for static pressure as the HH fan and the larger hub diameter means you have smaller fan blades.

@jonnyGURU it's the RM version. Thanks for the detailed response.

Also, no cable capacitors was a bonus.

Is it a CWT?

Yep.  Also CWT. Literally the same PCB as an RMx.

And yes... no cable caps is a plus.  😄

Do you prefer the 140mm Hong Hua to the older NR135L as well, or ?

The NR135 and the 140mm HH have the exact same impeller design.  6 of one, half a dozen of the other.  The difference between "135mm" and "140mm" is just the bolt pattern that mounts the fan to the housing.

  • 2 weeks later...

@jonnyGURU The RM850 has now replaced my 3 month old Phanteks AMP 750W unit that recently developed a nasty fan rattle and an unusual coil whine sound.

I believe Phanteks is using the Seasonic GX as OEM? Currently still awaiting a replacement RMA from the manufacture however this will now end up on the bay at some point in the near future. I've had the RM850 for a few weeks now and glad to report it's a solid unit overall, no fan rattle or coil whine to report.
