hey i use siberia v2 and im wondering if it is open or closed. when im listening to music on loud volume i cant hear anyone in real life trying to talk to me but i just tested it and it leaks a decent amount of noise out so other people can hear. i always thought closed meant leather earpads and open meant cloth or velour earpads. so what is siberia v2 if it leaks noise out but it has good noise cancelling, and it has holes on the sides to leak out sound i guess, and it has leather earpads.

i need to know if it is open or closed because im thinking of getting a sennheiser headset so i dont know if i want open or closed, and i really like siberia v2 sound

First, sennheiser 558s would be a great upgrade. Second, you are 1/3 right about if they are open or closed, generally, open headphones have velour ear pads and closed headphones have leatherette ear pads, but not always. The acctual difference is that open headphones have a mesh (or similar, idk what it's officially called), and closed headphones have a solid plate (normally plastic) with few or no holes that covers the back (400th post :D)

siberia v2 has mesh but i cant hear people at all without taking one of them off of my ear

it probably has the solid plate under the mesh, I think the razer kraken line is the same way.

After some googling, I think it's open backed. Try putting them on without playing any sound. Then snap your fingers on the back of the cup and around. If you can hear the finger snaps without muddy sounds and pinpoint the location just by sound, I'd say it's open back, not closed back. Unless it's closed back but have bad design/noise isolation...

If your confused about whether or not you want open vs closed, IMO if your using them at home, get open. Something about having a closed set of headphones at home that is just not comfortable. Like if you get robbed, or your sister walks in on you... not that that has ever happened to me... ermh... ahem..

but seriously open is the way to go if your not worried about sound leaking.

i use closed cans for my mobile set, when im on the bus or train.

Please read the OP before responding.

It looks open to me. If it leaks a lot of sound it is most likely open. Closed doesn't leak too much usually.

Best thing is, if possible, go to a headphone store that have demo units, and try the sennheiser first. 1 thing I learned, headphones from real audio companies have different sound characteristics. Some even go to the extent of you either love it or hate it. That's why headphone stores usually have demo units.

You're looking for something similar sounding to the siberia, right? Well, either the senn's similar, or not.

Why buy another headset if you're happy with the SteelSeries?

The V2's are advertised as having passive noise reduction on the SteelSeries website. I would say that they are closed despite the mesh.

They are closed, but they're not super isolating. The "mesh" is all decoration.

To the OP - choosing open or closed based on the V2 doesn't really make sense, because it's kind of an inbetweener. I wouldn't fret so much unless you're worried about sound leakage (other people hearing your sounds).Turn an open headphone up loud enough and you wont hear anything going on around you.

The mods told me to remove it or they'd give me more warning points.
