Upgraded all but storage and GPU and getting Low FPS

Meaty Beast

Hi All,

I recently performed a big upgrade on a load of my components and ever since I have been having low FPS on games as low demanding as League of Legends.

Current set up -

  • AMD Ryzen 7 5800x
  • GTX1080
  • MSI MAG B550 Tomahawk ATX AM4
  • RM Series RM750 - 750 Watt 80 PLUS® Gold Certified Fully Modular PSU
  • VENGEANCE LPX 16GB (2 x 8GB) DDR4

I did bring over two old SSD's and one HD from my old build, I have heard this can cause some issues when switching motherboards.

Any advice would be really appreciated.

Thanks,

Dan

Porting drives is not a issue unless they are real old then it's a question of reliability ....

Porting Windows installs can cause a lot of headaches tho ... so I'd start with a fresh install .

Did you just leave the old windows installation and not bother reinstalling it?

I did as I was hoping I would get away with it...

I was hoping to avoid this but I will give it a shot

also try doing a userbenchmark and seeing where all your components stand. keep in mind a part will be underperforming if you’re not overclocked and it can be overclocked like a cpu

Will the repair option saving all my personal files and applications work for this also?

So did you install all the drivers for the new hardware ?

What does the System utilization look like when running games ?

It also depends on what you switched from....AMD to AMD, less of an issue, Intel to AMD can be a larger part.

NOTE: I no longer frequent this site. If you really need help, PM/DM me and my e.mail will alert me.

I did install all drivers for all the hardware, I will fire something up later and take a look at utilization

Reinstall Windows.

Corps aren't your friends. "Bottleneck calculators" are BS. Only suckers buy based on brand. It's your PC, do what makes you happy.  If your build meets your needs, you don't need anyone else to "rate" it for you. And talking about being part of a "master race" is cringe. Watch this space for further truths people need to hear.

If you want to avoid a lot of hassle and time wasting, just do clean install tbh.
