Thank you for answering. The GPU i bought is an XFX RX 6600 and it is to arrive this week . It was 30 euros up from MSRP so I thought that’s finally time to upgrade my 5 and a half years old GTX 1060 3GB.

There really is no need to upgrade then. A 1700 doesn't hold back the 6600. Sure it won't get like 400fps in cs:go for example (because it's single core performance is just less than that of lets say a 12900k obviously :p) but it won't hold back the card and is still an easy 100fps+ gaming cpu in almost any game (that isn't held back by the gpu).

Hello everyone, as you read in the title i am going to upgrade my R7 1700 (budget 300 euros) I am leaning towards R5 5600G since it costs 230 euros here and its cheaper than the R5 3600 (270). My other option is to switch to INtel again and buy a B660 MOBO + an I5 12xx but i dont know if its worth it or not. Should i just hold on to my 1700 until AM5 drops later this year or early of 2023? I mainly ise my PC for editing, (Davinci Resolve), streaming and games like Genshin Impact, nothing crazy but i'll a few AAA titles from time to time like HZD, CB2077, etc. What do you think i should do? Thank you.

3700X, 5800X, 3900X or 5900X. Don't go 3600 or 5600X, those would offer better gaming performance but they are more of a sidegrade.

Try getting used. 3700X or 3800X would be nice.

Edit: I went from a 1600X to a 3600 and a few days ago to a 5900X. The 1600X was used with an R9 380X, then i switched to a 5700XT and it was bottlenecking so I had to upgrade (was planning on the 3700X but my MBO died and I had to purchase a spare board because the RMA on Covid peak took 2 months so I got the 3600 and a mbo). 3600 is no longer enough.

And what is the current issue? A 1700 should still play all those games no problem 60fps+ and be a nice cpu for davinci.

What are your other specs? Your board will determine the limit of what cpu's are an option.

@thenicktg is your reason for upgrade because of high fps?

1700 can do Shadow of the Tomb Raider on medium settings slightly over 100fps

Even better question would be to ask, what do you want from the upgrade?

Is it more fps in games, which games or is it for something else?

The reason i am thinking of upgrading is first of all: its age, i have hi since December 2018, and the second one is because i finally found a gpu near msrp and i thought that since i am upgrading my GPU might as well upgrade the CPU too. My current mobo is ASROCK B450 Pro 4

Ok so it's not lacking in performance? Then don't upgrade.

It's only 4 years old and one of the highest end cpu's of that year. I really don't see a reason to upgrade since it will play all the games you listed with no sweat. Those games are much more gpu limited than cpu limited anyway. Or in case of genshin impact easy to run.

The board isn't stellar but will work with new cpu's no sweat. However I'd just keep the 1700. It's still a good cpu and shouldn't struggle in any game.

What gpu are you getting?

If you really want to upgrade I think you should stick to a higher core count than a R5 5600G/5600G since you do video editing and also stream.

An Ryzen 7 5700G would be my choice for your budget (I only took a look on mindfactory.de for prices tho).

You can also wait for AM5, but you are gonna need to switch platforms for the upgrade. It's up to you, If your current CPU gives you the performance you need then you should wait.

Thank you for answering. The GPU i bought is an XFX RX 6600 and it is to arrive this week . It was 30 euros up from MSRP so I thought that’s finally time to upgrade my 5 and a half years old GTX 1060 3GB.

Depending on how you game, which games and settings and your FPS target, the R7 1700 can keep up with the RX 6600. I'd see how performance and usage looks when you get the GPU before deciding on the upgrade.
