Can you tell any difference between 4 and 5 ms?

Can anyone tell the difference between 4 and 5 milliseconds, or even 1 ms? They all look pretty similar and I can’t tell a difference even between 1 and 5 ms. Is there any difference between them that is “game-changing” or a “must-have feature?”

how are you doing today

Just to be clear, the question is about response time not input latency.

As it was said before it depends. Here’s ‘graphic’ example:

‘Must have’ - Shroud headshoting everyone during competition.

’Nice to have’ - Linus chilling with Anno 1800 at home.

Response times aren't too important other than being fast enough for the monitor's refresh rate. If they're so bad they can't keep up with the refresh rate they will introduce a lot more ghosting that is noticeable. With a lot of budget VA monitors this is a problem. Basically the pixel has to change to the next color before it even finished the transition to the color it should be right now.

In the end the monitor has to have both a good response time and a high refresh rate to reduce motion blur. Good 240Hz IPS monitors (4-6 ms response times) and 120Hz OLED TV's (around 1ms response times) result in comparable motion clarity for example. A 240Hz OLED would absolutely crush evey IPS, TN or VA monitor out there.

If someone did not use reason to reach their conclusion in the first place, you cannot use reason to convince them otherwise.
