Wouldn't recommend buying that drive. Used storage is not a good idea

its not used its just in a warehouse they may have dropped the box or just want rid to get in new stock iv bought many a part from them in clearance and only ever had one problem and they were happy to r.m.a it

It's a used drive. I wouldn't buy it.

Sounds like a nice way to lose 8 terabytes of your shit, and for a used drive it doesn't even win by a huge margin on price per GB with brand new enterprise HDDs like this Seagate Exos 16TB or the pricier 18TB version (£260 and £314 respectively RN)

 

Literally none of those clearance drives are a good deal.

Used SAS drives (I know this is SATA) is quite a big market for homelabbing. As long as its not had ridiculous power on times it will be ok most of the time. I've been running used disks in my NAS for years and never had anything go wrong. Just because its used does not mean its bad.

I remember reading a few years ago, likely in one of Backblaze's year-end conclusions, that if an HDD is going to fail - that will likely happen within the first year of solid usage.

 

I may be misremembering though.

 

And yes, out of the 5 HDDs that I, more or less, often use - only one was new (a shucked HDD from an EasyStore or some-other brand of external enclosure).

The only HDD that failed within the last 10-ish years was also one from an external enclosure. A 1.5TB that was purchased new 7 - 8 years ago. On second though it didn't fail per-se but it's clicking. Accessible but I wouldn't store anything even remotely important on it.

 

Used ones still going strong.
