Will a 3800X give me noticeably better performance?

Hi all!

 

I'm currently running a system with a Ryzen 5 3600XT, an MSI B550 Tomahawk board and an RTX 3070, and I recently saw that the Ryzen 7 5800X was on sale on Amazon.ca for $419.99. I play at 1440p, mostly competitive games like League of Legends and Valorant, and I've recently been trying some other games in VR like Beat Saber and Half-Lyfe Alyx. 

 

Will upgrading my 3600XT to the 5800X give me a noticeable difference in performance? Or would it be a complete waste of money?

5800x would be a significant improvement daresay even on a 3070 esp. in more CPU-heavy games as described. Although you could probably get the same bump from a 5600x. That said, the 5600x isn't on sale and if the 5800x is only $40 more, then absolutely get that.

Thanks for the reply! Good point, the 5600X does look to be a bit cheaper at $358.98. I hear the difference between the 5600X and 5800X is pretty small in games, so maybe I should just go for the 5600X.

My first AM4 CPU was the 3600XT.. great CPU. I upgraded to a 5600X and I saw a noticeable improvement. 5800X kicks it up a notch 😄

 

You will like how Zen 3 operates, its much better than Zen 2.
