Looking for a new monitor with actual HDR

This. Around your price tag of $1000 there is no real HDR monitor. The Asus PG35VQ, PG27UQ and Acer Predator X27, X35 are the cheapest real HDR monitors you can get atm. And they're all sitting at around $2000. That's the reason why the LG C1 is such unbeatable value. But it's 48" size is also the main reason why it's not my monitor of choice. I'd rather have a 32" 16:9 or 35-38" 21:9 monitor for pixel density reasons.

 

But i can vouch for the PG35VQ. I use one myself and it's an excellent monitor in almost every way. It doesn't get much better than this.

my current monitors slow death is picking up speed and i am looking for a replacement before it dies for gaming and HDR content. I would love to go for a lg oled but given their minimum size of 48 inches and the not college student friendly price tag its not a great option, and its not like my 1060 or my planned upgrade to a 3060/70 could properly run one either. Here's what I'm looking for:

 

Need to have:

-Higher resolution than 1080p

-Reasonable price (around $1000, could stretch it to $1200 if I found something perfect)

-High refresh rate, 144hz would be great but 120 is all i think i could realistically ask for at this price point

-HDR with enough FALD zones to not be noticeable, display HDR 600? (not super familiar with the various HDR standards other than being told that anything under this isn't really HDR)

-Gsync compatible

-some sort of built in speakers, as long as they don't sound so bad they make my ears bleed its good enough

-pixel response times that are fast enough to not have noticeable smearing without overdriving the pixels so much it causes inverse ghosting

 

Nice to haves:

-Gsync over hdmi, cool but not really necessary

-21:9, i would like an ultrawide for gaming but im not sure if that realistic at this price point and i don't think i would want to sacrifice anything else for it

-32 inch screen, size of my current monitor. I'm sure i could get used to a smaller screen if i need to but its not preferable

 

The ASUS PG35VQ is perfect other than the $1999 price, and i don't need the 200hz refresh rate or the display HDR 1000 levels of HDR. is there anything out there that fits what im looking for or am i aiming to high for what im willing to pay?

its a little on the large side but i guess thats better than being small. The FALD didnt impress rtings in their review, with only 8 zones and bad programming https://www.rtings.com/monitor/reviews/gigabyte/aorus-fv43u

 

also, is 4k really an option for me at high refresh rates? it seems like even the 3080 isnt able to keep up in some demanding titles and i doubt i will be springing for that, and the fv43u had some bad response times when running at 60hz.

no, probably some cheap capacitors starting to dry out and its way to much effort to try and fix it

If someone did not use reason to reach their conclusion in the first place, you cannot use reason to convince them otherwise.

Next year's LG C2 OLED will come in a 42" size aswell. But other than that i don't know of any significant upcoming HDR monitor releases. This is sadly still a barely moving market segment.

Samsung Display should be producing 34″ QD-OLED panels for PC monitor usage since 2021.11.30.

None other details, unfortunately.

Maybe, we'll hear more from CES 2022 in January.

Don't expect them to be any cheaper than current high-end HDR monitors though.

If someone did not use reason to reach their conclusion in the first place, you cannot use reason to convince them otherwise.
