12600KF/K better than 5800x?

sdw123

Sadly 12600K is not available.  So what's the best for Premiere, AE and blender. Not planing to overclock either since my Cooler budget is under $100. 12600KF path is like $10 cheaper.

What country are you in? Generally you'd want the 126KF.

Singapore. But buying from Amazon US.

Any reason to specifically buy from Amazon US? Newegg does free shipping to Singapore, and the 126K @ 300 USD.

12900KF is the same CPU as the 12900K, just doesn't have an iGPU, meaning you'll need an actual GPU like a 3060

At that point it becomes a matter of pricing, Z690 boards for 126K are 190 USD MINIMUM. If I were you though, I'd go with the 126K option.

Yes, but the tech community discourages from using UBM as a source for Benches. They are heavily biased, in general stay away from it.

They're very similar. What's the price difference there between a 12600k, mid range z690 board like the MSI Pro-A and the 5800x with a decent board like the MPG b550 gaming?

I'm not actually trying to be as grumpy as it seems.

I will find your mentions of Ikea or Gnome and I will /s post.

According to PCPP:
 https://sg.pcpartpicker.com/list/8YvzBc 126K + Cheapest Z690 (Z690 A Pro)
https://sg.pcpartpicker.com/list/7c6V7X 5800X + B550 Gaming Plus

Would go for 126K, as it outperforms 58X in Premiere and ends up being cheaper.

The 12600KF and 5800X are very similar in terms of performance for basically all applications. Frankly, you probably couldn't tell the difference in a blind test.

On paper, the 12600KF has an edge for your use case, but not by a significant margin. The two trade blows in rendering workloads and while the 12600KF does a bit better in some Adobe CC applications, the 5800X is barely behind.

If the total system costs are similar between the two, just go with whichever is available. You won't be disappointed with either.

Other way around. 5800x is $31 cheaper. I can't dig around on Newegg to see what else there is. GPU drop happening so their servers are locked up.

Comes down to if op wants Intel or AMD more basically, or wants to save s31.

+1 Read the list prices wrong, was in a hurry because of class. Personally I would go for 126K, even if its 31s more. Up to original poster though

What about the future proof / DDR5 / PCI 5? Chance of 13th gen comes with same socket or DDR5 will double the performance in future?

DDR5 won't work on a DDR4 motherboard. Alder Lake can work with DDR4 or 5, but the motherboards aren't cross compatible.

DDR5 will get better in the future, but not on a DDR4 motherboard. AMD has Zen3D coming out sometime in the first half of next year with more cache, but it'll still be DDR4.

If PCIe Gen 5 is something you need, then go for 126K and Z690. Raptor lake might be on LGA1700, no way to confirm. DDR5 hasn't matured yet to the point where we can recommend it for average consumers. Also DDR5 is not backwards compatible with DDR4 motherboards. So just go with 126K and Z690 A Pro. It'll last you a while.
