laptop keyboard is messed up after cleaning with 91% Isopropyl Alcohol

farzher

i bought a used Thinkpad x220 and the keys were sticky so i cleaned it.

it was working fine before, but now it's sending a bunch of random key inputs.

after drying for days, now all the keys work correctly, only the mouse clicks are messed up.
it sends random clicks, and a left click triggers a right click.
tapping on the trackpad also sends a left + right click. which is odd because that's connected differently.

i didn't expect Alcohol to mess up the keyboard so much. any ideas how to fix it?

if i unplug the keyboard, the trackpad clicks work perfectly. somehow having the keyboard in causes the trackpad clicks to break. that probably uniquely identifies the problem. but idk

alcohol doesn't air dry very well in tight spots. some has probably pooled up under a membrane, or between the plastic somewhere creating a short. i would take the keyboard and mouse pad off and sit them in front of a fan for a few hours-few days.
