PC Upgrades for 2022

Nathan5660

So in January next year (hopefully) I will have around £1300 ($1748 US) for some PC upgrades.

I currently have R7 2700x, ASRock B450 MoBo, GTX 1080ti

And id like to upgrade that to R5 5600x, Asus Prime X570 MoBo, corsair H150i Elite Cappelix AIO cooler, and im stuck with GPU choices. 6700xt offers the best performence for my price range, but Id be missing out on DLSS support in Red Dead 2.....

Most of the RTX 3060s I find are priced lower than the 6700xt (and the one I found matched my colour scheme PERFECTLY) and of course supports DLSS in RDR2.

Whats my best options here?

EDIT: FYI my 1080ti is genuinly terrible at everything it does. RDR2 low settings at 1440p it struggles to get 70fps on average. Ive seen 1080ti get the same FPS at HIGH settings. Im NOT intrested in making it work better, im done with it, the fans make funny noises, it under performs and I dont care about it anymore. I want it replaced.

The 3060 is a downgrade from the 1080Ti or at best a slide to the left with ray tracing.

3060 isn’t worth it. You’re talking the same rasterisation performance if not a bit more with the 1080Ti and AMDs DLSS competitor works with Pascal.

Wouldn't upgrade that 1080Ti yet, it's still a very strong 1440p card.  A new CPU, sure.  Look at the Intel 12 series as well.

I'd personally look at your other peripherals, storage, monitor, etc.

5600X isn't a good value right now. Getting a Z690 board for 200 and a 12600K for 300 should be like 20-50 more, while being much better.

For GPU the 3060 is better if you care about RT, DLSS and Nvenc. Otherwise 6700 XT. Still, not a huge upgrade from a 1080 Ti.

If you don't already have 16gb RAM, make sure to get that.

Just wait till January, we can't tell you right now what prices will be like. Also new Ryzen CPU's may be announced at that time.

going from a 1080TI to any 3060 is a shit-upgrade.  A 3060TI is a ~20% boost in FPS for the price.  (Youtube it.)

You'd want /at least/ a 3070 Super/TI to get any reasonable ugprade.

Or just upgrade your platform, and keep the 1080TI.  It still runs great!

That's more of a side grade than an upgrade. Sure you have better IPC and clock speed, but you lose 2 cores/4threads. Games might have a bit more frame stutters, making the game feel less smooth.

GPU wise what everyone else has said is correct
